Lots of parent-child bonding time, as one parent and child (David and Rebecca) laid traps to make another parent and child (Juno and Oliver) doubt each other. Oliver pretty much told Juno what had happened during his time as an abductee in their first conversation, but she couldn’t be sure that nothing more had happened during those 48 hours, not least because they’d made it seem like Oliver had spoken to Dawson, and she’s been in sole charge of a private spying/assassination organisation for nine years, so her baseline is paranoia. She wore a beigy outfit with exaggerated shoulders all episode.

David and Rebecca’s psy-ops included hacking into Oliver’s apartment’s security feed, rappelling down the inside of the building to escape (just because it looked cool), ‘cooking’ together, i.e. making a small bomb, herding Oliver with vehicles, blowing up a car (Rebecca liked that) and David leaning on Dawson to fake a memo stating that he had a witness to Kasparov’s death, as a form of manifestation, because a shaken, paranoid Oliver ended volunteering to be just that by the end of the episode.

All the while, although they worked well together, David was seeing how gleeful Rebecca was at her work, especially the nastiest aspects, even if some of it was her speculating about it rather than doing it. But she definitely enjoys the adrenaline rushes. He was trying to protect her and reach her about the damage it was doing to her as a person – but then also hurting her by taking his wife’s calls and saying goodnight to his other daughter. Just as Rebecca was finally admitting she might be broken – having been screwed up by the death of her parents, becoming a nihilist, she was now being offered a different future – well…

On the other side, Oliver was finding his mother acting weird, Juno was torn between being a mother who’d nearly lost her son but had had him returned to her and being his boss who was being given evidence to think the worst of him – and he was consistently presented as a beta. Oh, and a nepo baby. Although well done him for being paranoid enough to pick up a knife to open up the strange package in his apartment.

Juno even phoned her ex, Oliver’s father (one wonders how close his ladyfriend/partner was in age to Oliver) for advice. He gave Juno a frank assessment of how her son had always seen her. After a frustrating interview instead of being allowed back to work, from his perspective, learning that his mother was spying on him (first falsely, then not so much, because she had later ordered his security detail to keep an eye on him), being told he was going to leave for London to work for his dad, then getting chased – he thought – by said security detail, seeing his car blow up and assuming it was his mother…well, their relationship had got messed up in revenge for messing up David and Rebecca’s relationship.

Oh, and in the middle of all this, Juno had ordered Gun (who, sorry, should be rights be in hospital, because this is just a show about well-trained operatives, not superpowered beings) to follow a careless clue from David. This somehow led to him (and Caddis) finding David’s safehouse, and David and Rebecca’s assembly point. Gun’s car crashed into Rebecca, turning her from the super-competent operative/assassin into a vulnerable twentysomething woman, and David had to watch him carry her away.

So, lots of action, and some psychological parent-child/family dynamics stuff going on.
