in the event, rather than being about a black jazz band in white Britain, it wound up being about white people who just happened to meet a jazz band once. Yes! I felt that between having Stanley be a writer self-insert and nearly all the other white people having power and wealth, which are obviously stuff that interest Poliakoff, nobody in the band bar Louis got much development. It would be great to see the story of a black jazz band in Britain in that time from their point of view.
I've bought the soundtrack, although I think many of the songs work better in the context of the show.
I haven't seen anything else by Poliakoff. What I heard of them didn't appeal and I'd got a nebulous impression that his work wasn't my going to be my cup of tea.
