The Mentalist 6.11 White Lines

I enjoyed this. Jane was very Jane, so him getting his couch was never in doubt. I did think that Crystal wasn’t Mr X and that Jane was just fishing for information for a wee while, although I never bought that he was genuinely interested,. (The actress looked familiar - I checked, yes, like I thought, she was in Ravenge very recently - but ugh, did not like her theatricality when the character dropped the mask and became the head gangster.)

More important was watching Lisbon bond with Kim – eyerolling at Jane will do that, ladies. Lisbon and Cho, like the viewers, have a lot more previous with Jane, while Kim is a lot more gullible. But Lisbon works well with women if they don’t do stuff to make her lose their respect, and she was adorable over her badge, which looked like a pass to me.

She also seemed to be fine with Cho barking out orders. Well, they’d be sensible orders, after all, so maybe they are on a par in the new set-up, although I think he’s always going to leave handling Jane to her and she probably has a bigger sense of responsibility than him. This was something that [personal profile] swordznsorcery had pointed out that I hadn’t thought of, and is part of them easing into the new way of things.

I wondered how soon we’d have a case in Texas. I still suspect that thinking too hard about who is where when and how they get there would give people who know US geography hives, but that’s always been true of this show.

The only thing missing is Grace and Wayne. The team has a computer whizz-kid of its own! Are they going to get rid of him? How will the beta couple return?

Although Jane was perfectly willing to use flirting as a tool, the whole Jane’s type was nothing but a distraction - or a message that while the main text is about Kim dealing with her confused feelings with Jane and whether what happened on the island Meant Something, Lisbon is the one with the deepest emotional entanglement. Message received. Or something I only thought was a message received. Lisbon/Jane shippers seem to have been put in a place that slashers inhabit, given the mainly platonic partnership between Lisbon and Jane, where he’s the superspecial one who depends on her to anchor him/let him function in the law enforcement structure. Except they’re a het couple, she’s been shown to have had a crush on him at times, which he’s taken advantage of, and others have read their relationship as being romantic/sexual many times, while he's let her see him at his weakest and worst, so it’s more likely to happen in canon than male/male equivalents, even if the show has never gone for UST in the way that, oh say Bones did.

I was ridiculously pleased that Person of Interest clips appeared in the American drama trailer that Five showed in the ad breaks.
