shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (Avengers Natasha/Bruce)
[personal profile] shallowness
Agents of SHIELD 1.15 Yes Men

Is it me or did this really not track with a lot of Thor 2 – it made it sound like Thor was still on Asgard and no-one knew he was shacking up with Jane in London? Should we be worried that Odin (i.e. Loki) sent Sif to retrieve Lorelai with her gifts? Or can it be forgotten and put down to him doing what Odin would be likely to do? Indeed, might it not be politic to send Sif off on missions so she doesn't notice something's off with her king? In fairness, Asgardian prisoners freed during the attack of the Dark Elves making their way to Midgard is a promising narrative pathway.

Sif came out of being on the show all right. So there was a guy pre Thor. I didn't catch his name. Also, my Lady, Thor does give you the respect of seeing you as a fellow warrior.

If an ally who should know told me that a certain group of people were susceptible to the powers of a dangerous alien, I wouldn’t send any of them in that dangerous alien’s vicinity. And I’m not charged with protecting the planet. SHIELD seemed to have realised this by sending an all-female team to Vegas and letting Phil wait for the all clear. I think it was at that point that Melinda was allowed to punch everything.

I loved the Melinda-Coulson friendship and implied backstory. She was right and generous to insist that he talk to someone (rather than go off and brood in Lola) and for it to be Skye as she’d also been injected with Presumably Frost Giant essence. Skye handled being told some more bad news about herself by Coulson really well.

Having said that, I don’t love the implication that Ward is really in love with Skye (although I still see enough to make me think Ward/Simmons is viable, except the show isn’t paying attention to it and I’m in eye-rolling mode at Ward at this juncture) in concert with Skye and Coulson’s supersecret mission together, because they’re both Special, on top of Skye’s previous specialness. She’s the Key! Everyone loves her! I don’t – especially when the show insists I do.

But Skye and Simmons’ doctor-patient-friends moment at the start of the episode was sweet. (This could have been a far more female-positive episode than it turned out to be. [ETA: I didn't realise the title was Yes Men when I first typed that.]) Simmons is still my favourite, I loved her standing up to Coulson and I think the amount of time spent on having under Lorelai's influence Fitz chasing her could have been quadrupled as they were in a much funnier episode.

I squealed at Sitwell turning up. So, Fury was undercover pre Captain America 2 – was this before or during the noticing? Coulson is compartmentalising, thinking that it’s SHIELD and Fury that he needs to protect himself from, which is partly true and may help WRT the HYDRA reveal. I hope angry!Melinda was in contact with Maria or Fury. (Although Melinda is too often made to be less awesome than she should be, if I’m honest.)
