I'm still one episode behind, and More 4's sister channels are doing their best to spoil me with promos for tonight's episode.
2.17 We’ve Got Things to Do
Organic tensions all over the place!
I was glad to hear there’d be a further stage to the backing singer audition process, seeing as I’d have thought harmonising would be part of it. Still, Gunnar has no idea what page in life Zoe is on and maybe Avery is wise to stop the band from growing into a bigger thing (but they’re good). And I didn’t like Gunnar turning away and being childish because Zoe had kept quiet about her dreams (basically, everyone on this show who works in the industry and isn’t a manager wants to sing, GUNNAR. And maybe Brent wants to sing too.) It was churlish.
Tandy’s back in with the label, then.
Also Will has REPEATEDLY chosen Jeff, so it’s hard to feel too sorry for him about being dumped off the tour. And he chose Jeff again.
They’re possibly making Deacon a little too saintly and reasonable.
Although I wasn’t that impressed with that snippet of Layla singing, I think it’d be interesting if, as a result of Brent trying to prove himself/giving Will more angst, she develops like the other women. Or some self-esteem.
I was more amused rather than anything with Juliette and Avery’s fight, because they both had a point.
Shut up, Teddy. Deacon is right that grief is a part of your motivation when it comes to Megan (I also think that she’s Deacon’s girlfriend is a part of it too.)
Panettiere is great at pulling faces. I do think that control-freak Rayna needed to ealise that Juliette wasn’t a fledgeling artist, or just going to take her orders as read. But although I’m Team Juliette, I can fully see that she’s a right old high maintenance pain.
Um, I’m excited to see Glenn and Bucky work together, though. I had an idea for a Freaky Friday fic for them, where they both hate having to work for the other artist.
And clearly neither Teddy or Rayna thought to have the internet conversation with Maddie.
I don’t think that they sung the duet that Rayna and Juliette co-wrote way back, was it? Shame. Although of course, it was fun to spend the duet going ‘he’s changed, he hasn’t’ as we saw the male characters.
Ah, Zoe, perhaps you’re cut out for the limelight, and not the backing harmonies – although it might be nice to have a band dynamic on the show. It might also have been/be nice to make her one of the leads’ backing singers. (Scarlett would be the most dramatic choice.)
Ep 2.19 Your Wild Life’s Going to Let You Down
Juliette’s performance was one of the more credible renditions of someone on an arena tour on this show. Not maybe the best song choice for making up to country fans, but whatevs.
Yay!Gunnar for thinking of Layla in the sudden marriage mess. Shame it didn’t last more than five seconds.
So Juliette reverts to divadom in what’s to a large degree a battle for Avery’s attention, but Scarlett stands up to her and wins with BALLADRY.
Maddie seemed a lot like Teddy in her rage.
And that moment where Juliette dropped the bitchiness and heard something to sympathise from Scarlett, but then picked the bitchiness right back up and pointed out that Scarlett has been cursed by IT – perfect.
Oh, Avery don’t go crushing her heart either.
Heh, obviously a lot of other stuff happened: wee internet natives being stupid, Deacon going Hulk (here’s hoping that if he spirals, they do it differently to the end of the last series, although basically there should be a scene where Rayna has to wrangle the two men into a room to discuss the Maddie situation), and more of Will lying to himself and me feeling epically sorry for Layla because nobody else seems to. Her parents seem like idiots. But all I want to talk about is the irresistible Juliette Barnes and Juliette/Avery.
