Some answers
Jul. 25th, 2014 08:11 amThe Honourable Woman - episode 4
Told entirely in flashback, we got some answers, although the crux of it (Kasim’s conception) had been suspected already. I can’t be sure I followed everything of the first plot Ephra was implicated in – which party did what, although it explains some things. And who was Burned Face Rapist’s father? (I know, we were meant to have some sympathy for all he’d lost, which I did, but I was pretty much okay with Atika’s response after the rape. And I thought the characterisation of the two women and how they did respond to the situation was well done. Really idealistic and naive Nessa, and her upbringing conditioning her one way. Atika had a long-standing crush on Ephra at least.) But was the guy receiving what looked like a blood transfusion/dialysis the named big bad? And he had history with Nessa’s father, obviously.
I don’t quite believe the ambitious jogger’s claim that she wants the Stein Foundation let be because it will further peace. There’s probably more to it than that.
Janet McTeer was ferocious in this ep.
I would really like it if Nathaniel showed up in one of these flashbacks as some kind of player.
So, no idea where this is all leading. I think Julia has underestimated Hugh and he’s finally going to take his wife’s challenge, instead of jumping as high as Julia wanted. It would be nice if something shifted at the end of the series and that Nessa could find a way for things to be less awful for the next generation.
Watching this had an inherent edge/tension given what is actually happening out there right now. In one way, it’s a glimpse through fiction into the context, and it’s serious-minded fiction about complex characters, but I’m sure there have been talks about contingencies.
[Edited to get Atika's name right.]
