Strictly launch show thoughts

I caught up on the Strictly launch show yesterday.
It was nice to see Bruce...BECAUSE WE WILL BE SEEING SO MUCH LESS OF HIM for the rest of the season.
I thought they did a good job of reassuring us that there weren’t that many changes, but that they were willing to tweak where necessary.
Also, let’s have the Claudia Winkelman lovefest here and now, starting with her excited face when she was being paraded around in the chair. Basically, she conveys that she loves the show, bad puns and all. And her by-play with the Giggle twins et al actually worked instead of making me wince at the near miss, which is what usually happened with ‘business’ with Bruce and Tess. The latter is going to have to wear a lot of colour (I am even entranced by Claudia’s insistence on being all covered up in contrast to the show’s usual dress code) and even so, is in danger of being overshadowed.
I failed at guessing who would get who (except I was pretty sure Anton wasn’t getting, say, Frankie). I laughed a bit at how much Kristina was Feeling It. A lot of pros got rewarded for being good sports last year – Iveta (squee!), Karen, and Kristina got Simon, who seems all right (I was expecting him or Max to go to Natalie because of height, but no, she got Tim, who is very amusing because he hasn’t danced yet.) Kevin got the dancer who impressed the most in the hot mess that was the group dance (although Alison looks like she’s willing to sell routines with aplomb), and they’ve given new boy Trent a chance. I tend to think pairing Irish Jennifer and Tristan was rather too on the nose, but maybe the producers decided she’d confuse a Russian.
Anyway, we have Anglophone newbies. Wonder if Joanne will soon get over being Kevin’s Sister – the fact that she’s a show dance champ should make for an interesting pro subtext. Anyway, yay m/f/m bit of dancing in their intro.
Gorgeousness reprised (with added Messing Abaht and lifts) by Abbey and Aljaz.
Poor Imelda May and Smokey Robinson, trying to work their duet, when everyone was trying to have a squiz at the pros (well, that was where my focus was; I wanted to see who was paired with who).
By the end of all that, I was a bit hysterical and a little sad that there’ll be no Artem this year. I wonder what the Dance of this Season will be (the one a lot of people are good at).
