Strictly week 2 (Saturday)

The show was a marathon, this post is not.
Claudia is a magician. I like the looser feel of the show, even if Tess is sometimes two steps behind, but only sometimes. I might also suggest that what with Gregg’s schtick, the crying and Tess’s maternal instincts, she might want to carry several hankies with her in future.
I know the narrative will be ‘everyone improved’ and a lot of people did – Sunetra the most, for me – but some of it was the celebs dancing in a style that suited them better than last week, be that in hold or shaking their stuff.
The wheat, at present, seem to me to be Jake (best man, and THAT SAMBA, THOSE TRICKS, Janette pushing him to do all THAT. Obviously, the last lift was incredible and ridiculous as it was after all that had gone before, but that second trick where her neck and head were going all over his body and his confidence and rhythm were brilliant. WHOA. Also, good call, producers on basically having a break/reminder of who was coming up after that); Pixie (dream of a dance, real chemistry, and my only quibble was the floor spin, which I thought was too much, and I would have marked her a hair lower than Jake for degree of difficulty, but what do I know? I thought that Trent taking on the responsibility for the prop was a good call, ANTON); Frankie (I thought she got punished for the choreography and what she was given to do, which is surely out of her hands, for what she did, she did well. But I expect they won't be the closing couple next week); Caroline (fierce!) and Simon.
Okay, there are a few people who weren’t chaff, but I had issues with Mark’s American Smooth’s choreography (a bit of a theme, see also Scott and Jo's 'what was that?' tango) and his and Karen’s looks. How do you manage to find something unflattering for a pro dancer to wear? Put a ribbon there! Alison’s foxtrot was no foxtrot, and I could write a thesis on Aljiaz’s role-playing on this show. I think Natalie’s choreography for Tim’s waltz deserves praise, though.
I know I'm being inconsistent about Frankie and everyone else on the point of choreography, but I did feel that most of the judges' criticism for her dance was addressed at Kevin.
Favourite dresses: Jennifer’s (apparently Tristan was on Dancing with the Stars for several years, which begs the question of how did the Americans understand him), Sunetra’s and Caroline’s.
Craig was really harsh (although he did use more paddles than the others), but I think someone must have told him to be more succinct as they ran out of time.
