Gotham 1.08
Although there was a run of a few scenes towards the top where I was involved, mainly because of Penguin and the power play with Fish, so much of this episode was about making things obvious. Gordon is angry! Bruce is angry!!
I really want them to stop it with the masks, although I suppose they were looking for a way to emphasise the escalation Jim and the Captain (who got a tiny bit of development) were talking about. And foreshadowing. Which we get already.
I am exasperated with Barbara, tbh. All the Jim/Barbara angst that has been and will be just leaves me cold.
Also rolling my eyes at Alfred being unable to justify why Bruce should go to school – the kid is coming off as far more intelligent, if obviously a traumatised child who’s less worldly-wise, than you. Clearly things weren’t going to go well for delightful Tommy. So, we’re going to get what they cast Sean Pertwee for, i.e. Bruiser!Alfred, and even more violence, in another link between Jim and Bruce.
Erm, apart from delaying Jim from coming home and finding Barbara gone, why have Selina turn up in this ep? Although Alvarez admired how professional the job was, it was a rubbish exit strategy.
Nygma still isn’t quite working out. Obviously Bullock in particular is underutilising him, but like the co-workers he patronises, I’m not that interested in him, although I appreciate that they have tried to show some more of how he becomes the Riddler, because at one point I thought his motivation for supervillainy would be 'Harvey Bullock doesn't appreciate me' which, come on.
The speechifying from Bollock and Gordon was daft.
