shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (OB s2 Sarah as Cosima)
[personal profile] shallowness
The news that Revenge is definitely finishing at the end of season 4 and that its makers knew it when making the final episode (too lazy to link) is making it easier for me to want to stay with it, because the stuff involving the main players is going somewhere that is going to have to stick now.

(I have also learned that Nashville is coming back soon and moving to E4.)

Revenge 4.14 Kindred

Nicely snarky exposition/conversation between Emily and Nolan bringing us up to speed.

I wish I could believe that Victoria has really learned to get over her revenge-y impulses, although it’s fun to watch her try to argue Margiaux out of what she’s done herself. But see her defaulting for the life she’s spent building.

Oh, Curly Lou, I can’t take your wannabe Senator brother seriously with that shirt and tie, and I doubt an electorate would either.

And as Victoria tries to reclaim her position as Queen Victoria for Daniel (because yes, setting up a foundation and holding fundraising in he Hamptons is the only way she can think to do that, even though it’s a daft idea) enter a threat. A real, proper threat. Played by the magnificent Gina Torres.

You call Ben to confide in about the naming thing, Ems? Eyeroll, especially as she called him out on the undercover thing, but not the cheesy ‘can’t imagine a world without you’ line. (Sorry, shipper tendencies, slightly colouring my reactions.)

I thought the father-daughter stuff was sweet, but there was more there about Emily not being able to be the Amanda he thought was still there that the ep could have looked at as much as the name issue/the question of identity, although I loved that it came down to her being happy again.

So, Louise’s new husband takes his previously mentally instable wife to see a woman with a knife...heh. Nice to see the Japanese training back in action.

Wannabe Queen Natalie (or is that what she really wants given the hints of the conversation at the dud fundraiser?) got to see Victoria’s blackmailing mojo.

Meanwhile we had a disguise and fake name from Emily to rescue Louise, even if it was just glasses and front. Also a melodramatic flashback and about what I expected to have happened happened to Louise’s father. Wonder if Louise will now be allowed to become a player in the main plot – certainly we need to see her loyalties to Emily vs. Victoria tested again.

David and Victoria’s relationship is more and more intriguing, the more honest they are. (They seemed to have forgotten their mutual daughter, because the characters forget her the easiest, so I’m wondering if she’s the death in the family. Could be Justin, or could be someone involving money. See – I am allowed to invest in the future as it’s short and meaningful now.)

Really nice moment between Jack and Margiaux, where someone acknowledged her pain, and it let to the pay-off of her dilemma of whether she wants to bring him down alongside Emily. Because that’s the point the others have accepted, Daniel’s name had to be blackened because too many others were complicit.

‘Is it a bad time?’ Well, it was always going to be with Former Officer, Possibly Future Bartender Jack on his way, Officer Ben.

Ugh, I am still shipping Emily/Jack for the endgame, despite what the show is doing. The kindest slant on this episode is that Jack has complicated feelings he can’t unpack for Emily, whereas she described him as a friend who she cares about, but not enough to worry more about the state of him – volcano about to erupt – than exposure.
