Day one of Alica Florrick, State’s Attorney.

Why was Julius back? Wasn’t he working for the New York office of the old company? I suspect the answer for why he was there was so that he, David Lee and Eli could compete for the campest bit in this episode, and, despite mad eyebrow deployment and snapping, Eli came third. So frenetic.

That line Alicia ended up parroting was horrible, which I suppose was the point, and this idea of miscommunication or communicating very clearly by not saying what you meant in addition to the brouhaha of the e-mails (Sony influenced?) was clever, but it all seemed a bit much.

I loved Marissa, especially around her dad, but as she claimed ‘executive assistant’, I thought, ‘don’t get too comfortable’ because I remember Robyn. Unlike the show.

In fact, I remember a lot of things – in the looks between Alicia and Cary, you got an echo of when they started their own firm, and it really has got taken over, because Diane was the boss, the most often – although I thought that Cary was right to go and make amends with her above the other partners.

They got better use of John Glover than they have in the past, and it was dripping with Smallville referencing (for me) with him using ‘snark’ and calling Kalinda ‘supergirl’. Speaking of, I’ve only been following the headlines, because I don’t want to be spoiled, but my understanding is that Magulies and Panjabi didn’t film their scenes together, and it was very noticeable all of a sudden, with the characters in the same building, that they were on the phone. Again.

Howard really doesn’t want to end up in a closet with Kalinda after all this. As for me, I want them to stop using him as an easy punchline.

Bishop may be giving up the criminality, but the intimidation isn’t going to be so easy to drop.

By no means do I think Alicia should yield to anyone else’s choice for deputy, but I’m not convinced that Finn is the best one either, because it’s closing her eyes to the elephant in the room of their personal stuff. Although, yes, she’s going to need someone who knows the office to help. She’s also going to need a political adviser, and Eli isn’t really going to be able to swoop in and crisis manage on a daily basis. (I am a little sad that Elfman is gone. He was so easy on the eye.)

But I’m a bit dismayed about what the remains of the firm have become, and by the tone of this ep – like the archness, basically, about illegal downloading. I could barely engage with that, and focused on how much I disliked both the clients.
