I was a little distracted when watching this. In fact, I was so distracted, I caught up on this episode when I could have been watching The Good Wife live, so bear that in mind when you read the comments below the cut.
Agents of SHIELD 2.19 The Dirty Half Dozen
Skye is trying to be compassionate and loyal, but her mother’s having none of it to protect her own (and now everyone in Afterlife knows about the family). But, Momma, Lincoln’s so purty! I care more about Skye and her team/family than a ship, really.
This show has a cast of millions, I thought, as the show tried to get us invested in Mike and Lincoln.
Coulson continued to amuse me and I suppose there was that link to Bakshi in being willing to make the alliances needed, certainly he’s more impressive than Gonzales on the capability front. There was another nifty similarity that struck me, but I can’t remember what it was. (Cal and someone???)
I like Bobbi even though her angling to be on Coulson’s team was redolent of the girl who was always picked first for these teams.
Oh, Jemma, honey, no, killing Ward isn’t your call.
Heh, I knew May and Coulson were going to have a fight, but admitting he’d gone to see Andrew for counselling knocked down most of her props – but it wasn’t a full answer to her accusations. However, my main impression was of a married couple arguing about his friendship with her ex...
Not sure if Skye shouldn’t/wouldn’t stop and think about whether Rayna is telling the truth or can be trusted after their history, but she was saying what Skye wanted to hear.
Er, was that good advice from Ward to Cara to get in touch with her past as a SHIELD agent? I am shocked.
Anyway, bringing the original team back together, all with their different motivations and tensions, was a good halfway point to stop for a break. And I will give credit, I thought this episode mostly did a fine job in remembering what was going on with everyone.
I was amused by Ward’s little speech, because I much prefer season 2’s set up to season 1, and the family that’s grown together after his betrayal – yay to Fitz for getting to the point on that. I absolutely think they should keep two eyes open around him.
His reaction to Skye’s powers was a cool moment. Ditto how Skye and May handled themselves. Again, I read May/Coulson’s spat about his extra job on the mission shippily, and I never saw the shippies episode this season about them.
So, Simmons has decided she’s Judge Dredd now. Eh. Never mind what Ward thinks, I am disappointed in you these days, pet. Not so much the bossing and the survival skills.
That splinter bomb really does look like Buffy’s dusting.
More fodder for Bobbi’s unhappiness with Gonzales. But surely Skye and Lincoln could get teleported out.
Was Cara being set up to join the Bobbi/Hunter spin-off that’ll never be? I wish she’d seen for herself that Ward was no good for her and not over Skye to boot.
MARIA! HIIII! Of course, like Coulson you would be against running SHILED like a democracy, which, fine, except it shouldn’t be running, limping or hopping, CATWS said so. The set-up for AoU still doesn’t negate my belief that the film started too far in media res. And you could unpick Rayna’s speech about the film, but mainly I’m thinking I’d love to see Negga play opposite Hiddleston.
