Aha, cold callers. Of course Alicia’s reward to herself for a bad day at home was a big glass of wine. (I was eating white chocolate while watching the ep, FYI).

Fortunately whatshisname the prosecutor goaded Alicia just a little too much and gained himself an opponent.

Wow, the case is so old the firm was Stern, Lockhart & Gardner. And we got flashbacks to back up the point about the aftermath of losing the election being a bit like Peter’s scandal. So we got to compare Alicia’s relationships with the characters then and now and be reminded of how much of a jerk season 1 Cary was. I know they were trying to emphasise the journey, good and bad, Alicia had been on, but was she that clearly lacking in confidence all the time, though? Hate to say it, but I thought Margulies was overacting. I won’t even go into how much I am questioning the likelihood of them taping of all the research conversations, because I don’t remember that.

There was the constant undercurrent of whether Will would turn up. I didn’t expect young (or was it ‘young’?) Zach, but the zap of Jackie was something.

Not a surprise that the client was lying (perjuring, even). Okay, we got to a full circle about Kalinda teaching real-life lawyerly ethics to Alicia who had her own green lawyer. Grace seems a better moral compass – and duh, waiting for Zach to call back before turning his room into an office would have been a good idea.

I was spoiled about Alicia asking Finn to work with him, although I appreciated Goode piling a lot of feelings into his reaction shot – he did a lot with what little was given him in this episode - but the attempt to take on cases she believes in is meant to be the intriguing hook for the future. My flippant response is that the first test is if she drops Colin Sweeneyas a client. But although it’s meant to be different this time, didn’t she do this already? I’m less than enthused when we’ve already done the little firm that could against the behemoth that was to try to get invested in it happening all over again, but differently.

No Will, not even his voice, although I suppose the second they’d decided to show the flashbacks and that stupid fever dream/medicine episode nixed it. It felt like, because of what’s gone on, this episode wasn’t what it could have been.
