Humans episode six
An episode of revelations and developments, which is appreciated, although I only laughed (probably inappropriately) at Steve’s attempted flattery, which reminds me of how the show’s palate is pretty much angsty to tense. Deeply unshocking opening twist that Fred was still alive was still alive.
Joe continues to be an idiot – trying to talk Toby into being on his side? Really? In what way was THAT a good idea? If I’d been the friend’s wife, I’d have pointedly not left him with the synth (if he told them the whole story of why he’d been kicked out, which was implied).
Aww, Niska, Gepetto believes you have a conscience and CAN be better than a vigilante. The viewer in me is torn, it’s fun watching you be a synth vigilante, but such antiheroines don’t end well.
How come I was all ‘oh sweet Max’ and would have been indifferent about Leo’s angst if he couldn’t help Max to reproduce (kind of) and Niska was depending on him?
Yes, you’re the wronged party, but JUST TELL THEM ABOUT TOM, LAURA, SRSLY.
And then Fred was awesome, and I wished we’d had more than a scant few scenes of him up till now.
Revelations that the Elster ‘family’ was even stranger than we thought came thick and fast. Suddenly, Niska’s rage at the punter took a darker hue (really nicely handled reveal after Niska seeing Gepetto with Pinnochio/Opie, helping him and getting him to talk it out). I was theorising that Mia was somehow Beatrice downloaded into a synth.
Guessed right about Tom, although the way Laura’s mother treated her daughter was horrible.
Leo? Wrong about something? Never.
So at least they had Jill act on her desire with synth Steve and be disappointed, and so was her hubby when he went all caveman on the unfortunate synth. ( WHYYYYYY does Karen fancy Pete? She could do so much better!)
And Toby was angry with his father for doing what he wanted to do. Right?
Back to the main business, Leo thinks of Mia as his mother/foster mother and, sort of, his sister. I was with Mattie in how she read their relationship. This is DEEPLY WEIRD. Granted, it doesn’t make sense to me that Max, the last synth, is the worst at passing.
I did not appreciate Laura and Leo stepping all over the newly awake Mia’s agency. It was her call. Laura isn’t her mother, however nice it is to see her protective instincts extend towards Mia. And Laura didn’t appreciate that the biggest threat was the idiot Joe (or was she thinking about Sophie’s likely strop if Anita wasn’t around?)
Ah, okay, we can put Karen’s otherwise inexplicable crush down to youth and limited experience. Yes, Pete, you slept with a dolly, just like Jill did, only you hate ‘them’ (and possibly yourself).
Despite strong competition from Leo, Pete and the guy in charge of pointing those taser shotguns at the synths, Joe was THE WORST this episode.
I lost count of the number of times I said ‘sweet Max’.
