shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (Rogue X-Men Films)
At the start of the week, I posted Natasha versus the Marketing Ploy. Marvel Cinematic Universe. PG. Natasha Romanoff, ensemble. 503 words. Written for the prompt ‘MCU, Natasha Romanoff+Any, To present the Avengers in a more 'cuddly' light, plushies are made of them. Natasha is not amused.’ at [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic

I wrote the first draft pretty quickly, left it, because I needed to check a couple of things, and it took me about a week to get around this. I enjoyed coming up with the details of the scenario. I couldn’t come up with a title I liked, but eventually realised I could pinch the summary I’d come up with. Turns out it’s the first MCU gen I’ve written.

I also caught up on the Humans series 3 finale:

I am, if not catching up, keeping up with B99, so I’ll do a bumper post, but I was more bothered about seeing the latest episode of Timeless than of Gotham, even though I keep thinking Gotham’s villains are better – certainly more fun – than Agent of SHIELD’s.

Timeless 2.8 The Day Reagan Was Shot

It took me over a day to watch (catch up on) this, thanks to an ad that would not load on Thursday night.

First, I had to swot up what had happened previously (so much! The Previouslies didn’t cover all of it.) Secondly, I was wondering how they’d cope with al they’d done before – I thought that the show was overambitious in season 2 with season 2 spoilers ). So, I was giving new characters dubious looks, season 3 spoilers! )

I discovered a little while ago that Scorpion is back on UK screens for a third series, but several episodes had aired, so I've decided just to switch to DVD and enjoy it from the beginning instead of trying to deal with the ITV2 schedule. Currently, I'm rewatching episodes I've already seen of Person of Interest season 2 on DVD.

I did watch this live, but a cold on top of everything else has stopped me posting this until now.

Sci-Fi!

I really enjoyed Arrival. It's smart and it's got heart, and it lived up to my 'it's as if Uhura got to be the main character' excitement when I saw the trailer after hearing of the buzz. Amy Adams is excellent as a grown-up lady who is competent at her job right at the heart of everything, ably supported by a good cast (Renner has never been so hot playing an occasionally bespectacled theoretical physicist, but I think that says more about me than anything else). It had more substance than the director's Sciario, for me. And spoiler? )

Also, Humans has been back for a bit, but was up against Poldark, so I've only caught up this week. The Humans Stand Up to Cancer skit was quite funny, mainly for torturing Joe.

I had a peek at what Humans fic there is on AO3, and it appears fandom is a step ahead of me: Leotilda is a thing.

I would love to see fanvids of the show, mainly focused on the synths, as they're the most interesting visual component, and in terms of the ideas they raise too.

It’s been announced that there will be a second series of Humans, which is a rarity for grown-up British sci-fi these days, so hurrah. It has improved – I have mainly good things to say about the last episode - although I think it could do with more female writers, a look at the pacing if they’re introducing more characters and more intentional humour.

I’ve found out that actually, Person of Interest came back on five in June (why did they have a month’s break?), so I had no chance of catching up. As the show now has Shaw as a regular, I intend to buy the third season on DVD, so I’ll catch up in my own sweet time.

Humans episode 4

The blurb says that this is actually set in a parallel present – which would explain why it looks like now apart from the synths.

This episode evoked some really strong reactions in me, and I don't think I've quite got at or eplained why. It may get ranty under the cut.
