Parks and Rec 4.9 The Trial of Leslie Knope

Ron’s response to learning about the lack of privacy on the web = A1.

I thought Tom would be the killer witness, not because of anti-Tom bias (ahem) as much as that he wasn’t immediately an obvious member of Leslie’s defence team, but Tammy 2 made more sense. I enjoyed going over the developing relationship in this way i.e. an exaggerated fake trial, and OF COURSE April really got into it. And cue some more horrifying pictures and Pawnee history. Leslie’s hyper e-mail attachment to Ann was great.

Ron did the conscience thing again.

Ben looked bad for not being where he’d said he’d be, but – I am such a bad shipper – was that the first declaration of love? I really am a bad shipper who didn’t buy season 3 and rewatch each episode so I had the timeline clear in my head, because I’d forgotten about half of what they referred to.

Fabulous use of the old lady transcriber, both times, although nothing can nullify the romance of kissing in the snow (when there’s no danger of hypothermia or frostbite.) But they also slipped in Chris thinking Leslie was great enough to be worthy to be Ben’s girlfriend. Aww.

Ben resigned! Beyond the gesture of it all, what next? Surely he’ll end up in an Ann-like position and turn up before he gets it.

I thought Leslie was going to ask Jerry about Chris’s relationship with his daughter in the coda, although, as far as I know, she’s not working for him, but of course it was a stinger that they’d got his name wrong. Even the man who’s dating his daughter.

4.10 Citizen Knope

I was more worried about Ben finding a job, but yes, two weeks with nothing to do would be tough for Our Leslie. Those silly campaign people, telling her to keep quiet. Some of the quotes (not even the comparison to human trafficking – at least she recognised that was OTT) ought to come back and bite her.

The thoughtful personal gifts for everyone (why couldn’t she use her free time to offer a personal gift buying service?) except Jerry, and Ron’s deeply emotional (but inadequate) response was a nice counterpoint.

And then the department and Ann came up with the sweet model, which was adorable until you thought a bit about her eating the models of Ron etc. (except his surrogate children made him proud this episode!)

I was shocked that Jean-Ralphio understood that Ben was considering being an accountant for accountants, but he was right about using this crossroads. A bigger shock was the support dropping to 1% and what seemed to be the end of Leslie's campaign (I thought they might have made less of the scandal, per se, and for the sticking point to be that Ben wasn't from Pawnee).

But the department coming together to be Leslie’s campaign team (and Ben knowing about it) was lovely. As she said, they ‘won’ and it nicely brings them in to what is likely to be Leslie's main plot..
