Brooklyn Nine-Nine, 3.07, I believe
Really good episode – funny, on point and I loved that Gertie was involved in two plotlines. Not Gertie herself, I don’t automatically love old cars, but that we got the story of why she was so important to Holt in the one plotline in another.
Gina was amazing in the whole cupcake scene. Such a perfect set-up, and despite her nastiness to him (heh) she stood up for Charles, who was in the right. And then overkill in explaining it (which Holt nearly repeated with Jake).
Mentor!Rosa, too, and Terry’s attempts to soften her. The ballet teacher being a terror wasn’t a huge twist (silly Terry, ballet isn’t soft) but I imagine the GIFs of the dancing were/are all over Tumblr. Could have done with a cull of some of Terry speaking about himself in the third person.
Much of the episode was spent muttering ‘Buy the mattress, Jake,’ obviously, but I loved how the plotline developed. Having read fanfiction takes on these two ‘going undercover pretending to be a couple’ (before they were a couple), it was fun to see it onscreen, even if they were arguing. And though there was much silliness, which was great, the line about Amy not telling her mother – even if Jake made a big deal of throwing it in – was a telling moment. When ARE we going to see other Santiagos? Loved that, despite himself, Holt is invested in them (though Charles is the biggest shpper). On the one hand, Jake doesn’t quite get that grammar is sexy, but they mattress jump so beautifully.
I hearted the deliberate use of first names/surnames throughout the episode.
A good intro to the episode, too, although that doesn’t always mean much, but I felt this was firing on most cylinders, especially the one to make me laugh.
