shallowness: Catwoman looking at the Batsign in the Gotham City night sky (Catwoman watching Batverse films)
[personal profile] shallowness
The Batman vs. Superman advertising is gearing up. I haven’t been excited about the film, oh, since hearing what the title was. Conversely, every little detail I hear about The Lego Batman Movie is thrilling me. But it feels like it’s too soon for another live action movie about Batman, I am not enthused about their casting Affleck, I think it sounds like there’s too much going on and in this film and so there won’t be enough Clark/Lois, plus I hope this doesn’t mess up the Wonder Woman movie, because that means so much more so than whether DC/Warner can emulate Marvel/Disney.

Still, I was going to go and see it anyway, but I have been reminded that I am going to find Alfred’s voice attractive, which has never been the case before. So, there’s that.

Good to have Parks and Rec back (although Dave are airing it in some random late-night slot, which is typical of this show’s treatment in the UK. What did we do without catch-up again?)

Despite having April as an intern, Ben seemed to be doing well in his campaign...in Washington, which was an excuse to send Leslie and Andy there and have monuments and politicians turn up. Sadly, Leslie got to be made feel small by the machine and the tall Washington ladies Ben was mingling with, and I liked that it was both things that upset her. Nice way for Andy to help her over it.

Meanwhile, sans Leslie, Ron’s attempt to try to hold a barbecue and skip on the rest of the fun things/run the department went as well as you’d expect. Actually, him driving off with a smoking barbecue trailer thingy was better than the food poisoning I’d expected.

Donna’s new season hair looks good.

Actually, I was more glad to see this lot back again than laughing.

So, this congressional campaign is going to go on a fair while, then...

I found April’s voice breaking at her declaration of love rather touching, even in the circumstances. I do like how her and Andy’s love is so sincere.

We had another existential crisis from Chris and some oddly sensible advice from Andy and Tom. No pressure, but the therapist ought to be good given past guest actors/character turns.

(There is an added level of amusement to watching unfit Andy train given what Chris Pratt went on and did.)

Meanwhile, sugary soda drinks got it in the neck – the public meeting could have done with more obese extras, loath as I am to criticise one of my favourite features of the show – but I’m glad the show focused on Leslie dealing with her new position and the freak-out that ensued. I could well believe that Ron had tried to get her fired, and although they could have done more of the fact that he knew that her following her conscience would lead to a tax, which he opposes on principle, the compass made me go ‘Aww’ very, very loudly.

Also, the fact that he used the button that Leslie gave him to close the door on her yammering was perfect.

Obvious that April did the drawing, though I suppose it was meant to be. I spent a lot of time cringing as Ben tried to ease off and suck up, and was surprised Ellis didn’t have him up for unfortunate sexual harassment. But everyone thinking April was Ben’s daughter, and she’d probably have encouraged the idea for kicks, was spot on, and the 15% of effort she put into scaring entitled Ellis into working was funny.

But I don’t know if I want Ben and April in Washington to last long – apart from the effect on the romances, I just realised the effect of less Leslie and no April on Ron... But, like taking Holt and Gina out of the precinct, I don’t love splitting up the core team on a sitcom.

I did see The Night Manager and hope to get my thoughts up sooner rather than later, but I’m having problems editing posts on LJ, which is why the same userpic is visible in my most recent posts. Every time I try to edit, the entry text is swallowed up. Has anyone ever had a problem like that before?
