AOS 3.11 Bouncing Back

They were aiming for fallout from the last episode as well as prepping for Civil War (worries about the Inhumans/powered people) in this episode and, overall, thanks to some nifty manoeuvring I think they pulled it off, but I think the rest of this season may have a lot to do.

With new Inhumans on display, Marvel is showing that it doesn’t necessarily need the rights to live action X-Men, does it? Granted, they don’t have the name recognition, but they have cool powers and angst and something to bring them together.

I like the POV Linc is offering on how SHIELD is handling Inhumans and, indeed, Coulson’s sorrowfully pulling ‘ends justifying means’ actions.

As ever, I thought Mack needed to rethink his approach towards the speedy senorita. (He did. Eventually.)

However, having Bobbi talk in the interrogation was better than Hunter – I enjoyed her breezily pretending to be ATCU or whatever the acronym is and her reaction when she knew Daisy was coming. Hunter and the mouth on him would probably have had them killed.

As we saw Thingy zip around so handily, I felt that she was a little too effective to stick around (and anyway, with the broken English, was it likely?), but it was a neat way to cull the numbers while making it seem like development as Daisy learned from the danger of Lash and her hacker past and adapted her idea of an Inhuman team and approach to bringing people in.

Anyway, we’ve been assured from two sources or lines of thinking that there’s intentionality behind the powers that the Inhumans have. But first, I suppose we’ll have lot of Ward!Maveth, being a bit vampiric.

Linc/Daisy still feels a little lightweight, while May telling Coulson he joined the cavalry was definitely not.

Could Talbot please not have the moustache when he turns up in the next episode?

Parks and Rec 5.9

It felt that if they were going to have Leslie in that costume and mood, it had to be in a scene with Ron.

The Jerry dinner was entirely credible, although that it was absent the other two? Of course, Ann was right, but the bit where she deflected puny April was funnier than the rest of it.

Ben’s cardigan was worse than April’s.

Excited!Ron at the wood thing!? Nowhere near as excited as Leslie, who, of course, approved of Diane. And enter Tammy no. 2...

Excellent second half, with Jerry’s inexplicable home life and the nice twist that he had invited the meanies, they’d just filtered him out. Also, good deployment of Andy. I think that Ben was a little too honest about expecting Chris to fall to bits, but loved that Chris was resilient enough to reach the shared moment of not understanding Jerry and the missus.

But the best bit was Tammy being awful and Leslie stepping into the breach, especially for the chase scene, and the emotional heart being Diane (Xena could take you down, Tammy no. 2 and we all know it) worrying about Leslie knowing Ron so well. So, I literally squeed over Ron revealing he was Duke Silver to her (even despite my Ron/Ann tendency) – and of course he has terrifying fans (Xena could take you down, etc, etc. It’s really nice to see Lucy Lawless get a recurring part after seeing her turn up in stuff for no more than an episode or two.)

5.10

The promising opening of trying to get Wamapoke support for the new park descended into competitive bachelor/bachelorette parties. I mean, I was deeply unsurprised that board games and beer would be Ben’s choice of activities, but I didn’t need to see it. Apart from April’s preferred plans and Ron’s horror at the experimental pub, I was hoping the second part would be better.

It was. Again they managed to weave the heartwarming and the funny – the boys’ bachelor party just got even further out there, but in a nice way. But I have less to say about it than the previous episode.
