Gotham 2.11 Worse than a Crime
Not that Galavan was ever going to kill Bruce, but as he didn’t kill Bruce with the knife in Wayne Manor, but rather waited for an appointed time, all his posturing seemed weak.
Alfred getting away from Tabby was mildly amusing but the lack of actual peril (except maybe to Silver and I don’t much care for her except being intrigued at how they’re getting a young teenager to play the torn honeytrap). Certainly I wasn’t worried about Bruce, Alfred (and lo, all he needed was a few bandages) or Jim, or even Jim’s career and I don't care about whether Jim can look himself in the mirror.
I’d forgotten about Lucius or that he could be a factor in resolving last episode’s cliffhangers.
We had a few more hints at the backstory of the dysfunctional Dumas family clan, learning that Silver really is another orphan in Gotham and a suggestion/threat of more Dumases. Silver really should run, but no, we had to go through the contrived hoop Uncle Theo has set for her and Bruce.
Of course Penguin brought Jim to Nygma’s. (I may not have mentioned it but Oswald is so in love with Jim.) I’m wondering how Nygma is going to talk himself out of his association with Oswald or if he can trade on Jim’s variable detective instincts.
I was initially cynical about Lee’s pregnancy. (Ugh, sometimes Baccarin is so wooden.) But it would explain why she’s put up with Jim. (Try to put aside your jealousy, Oswald, and refer to Lee by the proper honorific.)
I was cynical about Silver’s ‘escape plan’ too, but I did appreciate how she handled the guard. I am glad Bruce, who I was suspecting of harbouring a soft spot for her, was not tricked, although after his ‘there is still hope (but not for a normal life)’ speech, it was pretty obvious she’d get her kiss.
Fox getting Nygma’s riddle immediately was fun.
SELINA! Someone to get excited about! I’d long wrinkled my nose at all the determined testosterone of Bruce’s rescue party, so it was good to see her. Heh, Harvey’s ‘Fox meet Cat’ was fun. You took your fun where you could this episode, and to some extent, that was mainly from Bullock.
Fox really is an amateur and a sane one at that in this company. Obviously they had no plan, but it would be fine!
I enjoyed all of Selina’s action in this.
Tabitha FINALLY had enough of controlling!Theo (six episodes ahead of you, Tabby) and picked her niece.
Blah blah blah Jim’s ‘doing what he thought was best’ (vigilante justice). As they’d killed off Ron Rifkin’s underused monk/deluded old fool, I was pleasantly surprised we weren’t getting a rerun of Gallavan trying to take over the city.
Alfred and Selina united in putting up with Bruce in a snit is probably the closest we’ll get to Alfred apologising to her. But at least we saw glimpses of smart Bruce emerging under pressure in this ep.
Hoping Lee will turn Jim down, expecting her not to.
Sadly, they’ve taken Theo Snooze Gallavan Dumas to Indian Hills too.
What’s interesting about presumed Mr Freeze as introduced in the stinger is that he’s the reverse of firebug Bridget. I doubt they’ll pursue the interesting stuff.
I caught the last hour of the Avengers on the Beeb last night. They showed the schwarma scene; the absence thereof had miffed me when it was out in the cinema here.
