different kinds of cops

Undercover Episode 2
This show certainly covers a lot of ground. We had Maya making her passionate case for the job of DPP, ‘Nick’ angsting over betraying her and being given his father’s ashes – I had wondered about how the funeral had been arranged etc if he was the next of kin. The cop liaising with him was very much handling him.
And then flashbacks to explain how ‘Nick’ was born, or rather, as happened in RL, his identity was built up, borrowing from a dead child. So we got introduced to the Mysterious Stalker lady. I thought she was hard done by – surely they could have given her a suspension and put her on detox.
It was balancing to see that Nick was so good as an undercover cop (which I presume is what UC stands for) and that when he was tasked with infiltrating the black power (?) group, he was hopping mad with Maya for getting the case he’d worked on thrown out, which was partially why he targeted her. Without going into it point by point, I thought that there was a decent bit of complexity all round in the views represented which helped to make it more dripping. Anyway, even though he’d started sleeping with her, I’d only go as far as to say as 90s Nick found Maya disarming, but the arguments he was hearing were seducing him too (because they had quite a lot of force to them). Meanwhile she found his line of questioning attractive because she’s such a lawyer.
But that moment where they threw the skinhead into the cell made me gasp, even though I knew it must be something like that. Just...that seems unconscionable.
As for the cutting between the ensuing vicious pounding, the lovemaking with undercurrents and Lady UC angsting in various parts of the police station, can you tell which bit I found the weakest? I’m still not sure if she saw the officer telling the uniforms to hold back (!!!) and we’re meant to think she’s the new witness.
INEVITABLY, Sandy from The Night Manager appeared in the episode.
B99 3.15 The 9-8
I really liked the opener of an auction of favours for Gina for a mystery suitcase. I just felt that it was nice to have them all in on something so silly. So I quite enjoyed the big ole fight that eventually broke out after all the simmering tension. Amy got so mad about the dog and of course Rosa smashed the china, and yes, Holt finally snapped in his own way, while it was the yoghurt that broke Terry. I was surprised that Hitchcock and Scully got the microwave to work outdoors without setting things on fire – though they eventually did start a blaze.
See how I’m not mentioning, because I was only mildly amused by most of it, Charles’s jealousy over the return of Jake’s first partner, though the singalong at the end was funny.
3.16 The House Mouses
I’ve seen the typeface documentary Amy was so into, but I have seen many films, even many documentaries since then...
This episode got excellently silly.
Holt’s excitement about the oboeist was very endearing and then it got ‘crass’. But we all learned that classical musicians...are savages. Hee. If you say so, show.
I didn’t believe Gina’s phobia, although businesspeople AREN’T her, but carry on you wonderful lionesses.
As for Jake trying to do right for shifting his case onto Hitchcock and Scully, by way of channelling McConaghey, the way those two idiots see the world is a beautiful yet offputting thing.
Regarding the Thor: Ragnarok casting news NOOOOOOO! It's not a surprise that Portman wasn't excited about returning, but I love Thor/Jane, and I was most excited about her and Bruce doing science together and Darcy bemusing Bruce. Sure, I was looking forward to how the goodies would bring down Loki and all the rest of it, but I'm less interested in Erik Selvig than Marvel thinks I am, for instance.
What does this mean for Darcy? How are they writing Jane out? Is there little contact with Earth or will they kill her off, making Thor a sad puppy?
