shallownessI’d really got behind on B99, so I've been catching up over the last few days.
3.17 Adrien Pimento
In which Jake was an idiot in his own way, while the new cop was really, really disturbed, crossing over the show’s goofy line, I felt.
I love the idea of Marge and her janitors. I wish they’d thought to create her sooner, because you just know that they’ve had a lot of messes to clean up in that precinct over the years, so they kind of had a point about not cleaning up one more non-work-related mess. Everyone’s rubbish giving them away was perfect – I think Terry throwing away his girls’ artwork was the one that made me gasp the most.
Meanwhile Gina the Director and her pizzazz vision vs no-nonsense Holt and Rosa was very amusing. Every sitcom goes meta in that way these days, right?
3.18 Cheddar
SUCH a good episode, because even as Jake’s offer to dog-sit came from a sweet place, I was thinking that Amy aka the responsible-ish one was going to have allergy-related issues with Cheddar, and Charles without eyesight (stuff being done to people’s eyes is a squick of mine, so I winced at every pratfall and disaster) was neved going to go smoothly. Of course it all went terribly wrong, and of course Jake brought everyone in to help them find the dog.
So Adrien is sticking around a bit. I liked the epically OTT UST with Rosa and how he revealed his damage. Terry was the perfect foil.
And a slo-mo of the ensemble dressed in Holt’s clothes!
Plus how they made it real, between Holt opening up and Jake’s growth added a nice strain among the absurdity. It was all tightly written.
The cuts to Cheddar’s adventures were also briliant.
3.19 Terry Kitties
Time for flashbacks and a cold case, and Terry being reallt mean to innocent, cute kitties. Some really nice random moments between Jake and Terry.
The competitive bomb defusing was utterly childish, especially Santiago and the burns. Heh. I liked the suggestion that Holt was still in a bad mood from what Hitchcock and Scully had said during the intro.
And now Adrien got to hang with Charles, and Gina got involved. (Would she out Alpha Rosa, though?) Boyle’s whole ‘I betaed you info dealing with my unwanted houseguest for me’ was perfect.
All caught up until 9 o'clock tonight.
