shallowness

Although this is actually going to be quite a busy Saturday for me, it's so nice to have the time to post of a morning! I have been watching TV and XMDofP extras and doing stuff like reading fic that should be recced, so maybe it's not time that's the problem either.

Agents of SHIELD 3.19 Failed Experiments

Dear everyone, listen to May. It’s not like Ms Bluntness Itself is hard to follow.

By 'everyone', I mean Lincoln (I have to help!) and Mack (I have to save Daisy!). Their turn to ignore orders, but those orders from Coulson were on point, and though Fitz had sympathy with Linc’s wanting to do the grand romantic gesture (of course he did) over logic etc, Coulson did give the order.

Jemma’s unsympathetic brain sample-taking was grimly funny, but I thought she was a bit harsh in how she delivered the news about the anti-toxin not working, even allowing for disappointment. (Is it me, or does Henstridge have ridiculous chemistry with most male actors she plays with?)

I was expecting Daisy to kill Mack, for them to lay that on her when she comes to herself, but they didn’t – he really shouldn’t be up and about unless if some time passes in the next episode. Both the physical stuff and the emotional blows she dealt were tough.

The only ones who fell, apart from disposable Hydra folk, were the Cree Reapers (and well done for explaining why they were the same ones as in the flashback, because I was quibbling) and, I presume, all the Aleshas left. I mourn her potential.

I am really enjoying Dalton’s performance, most especially his line delivery, as Hive, although it would have been fun if Hive had taken over John Hannah (giving good mad scientist)’s body. But then we’d have missed all the May watching Hive in Ward’s body fighting, her assessment of his abilities and shooting him, and then the final eye contact as he cradled Daisy.

The exploration of how far gone Daisy is and how she rationalises things was interesting. Mack was so wrong, but I wonder if the writers depended a little too much on deep cover beats for tension as things went wrong.

We did not have quite enough of Fitzsimmons relationship stuff, frankly.

Overall, quite a good episode if you didn’t think about the ways they were playing it safe.
