After a grim day and some housework: Parks and Rec

6.11 New Beginnings

This episode featured a lot of cringing at and for Leslie and Ben.

Leslie was in danger of becoming the new Gerry/Larry of the department as she returned to her old job, as the team had moved on and – gasp! – done stuff without her which we, the audience had seen, so there was this odd double vision. But in covering over the spirit dogs, she really went too far, no? Reverting to season 1, almost.

I snorted through Chris’s proposal thanks to Larry’s choking. The same callousness was less amusing in the store, although the shop-owner had been pressurising them – an engagement ring can just be a sign a couple have agreed to get married.

And Ben was also uptight and bringing in new rules and a weird pronunciation of ‘productivity’ as the new Chris. I think I moaned ‘oh no’ when he listened to Andy. Donna’s FACE as Ben uncomfortably tried to prank them back was glorious.

Meanwhile, Ron showed an over-reacting Leslie that Tom had indeed grown as a person. The bacon stash thing was revolting, but his response to the award was hilarious.

6.12 Farmers’ Market

This featured Leslie and Ben working together (they hadn't crossed paths in the last ep to the point where it was noticeable) – fortunately it got less sickening after the opening. Indeed, if Ben thought being the ultimate boss of his friends was going to be hard, this ep was about his learning about hard it was to be married to Leslie of the endless enthusiasm and her ultimate boss. As for Leslie learning to compromise? Well, I don't think it'll be long before she's running for something else. The pen ‘Leslie is Right!’ and the ridiculous physical manifestation of the firewall were really funny.

Pregnant!Ann is full of frustration, which Chris is going to be terrible at dealing with. I loved the idea of Whine and Cheese Club – and Ron’s joy at the rectangle with all his music on it. Although Leslie got good and mad during the episode, it was nowhere near Ann's RAGE.

Once he got the grasp of appropriate boundaries, Andy was perfect as an entertainer for children, so long as he didn't do any maths songs. Chris Pratt’s own charm, but also the fact that the character would pitch it just right worked, as well as Craig’s attitude.
