I thought the arguments about Afghanistan were simplistic and I suppose I have to put up with the fact that Kaspar and the Minister of the week are Birgitte’s only advisers, but this episode did a great job of bringing us up to speed on how Birgitte was at war at work and at home. The first showed all the problems of coalition – and of an idealist becoming the Government, plus the tendency of the male politicians to patronise her. Secondly, I don’t want you and Philip to be divorced either, Birgitte :( Her loneliness shone through both episodes :(
We also got updated with Katrine’s new life with her biased pig of a boss. I was glad to see her working again with a Hanne who seemed together and that the TV1 people were floating about. It occurred to me, if not Katrine, that she could have tried to talk to the other families every time everyone talked about the multiple fatalities, but the way she fluffed the interview was so very her. The point she was making about the father needing to read his son's last words were right, but the tack she took and the deadline weren't.
And then there was Kaspar, worried about her safety. (Another show might have had Katrine be involved with the photographer.) I refuse to feel bad for forgetting the new girlfriend’s name, because his feelings for Katrine are the least of her worries. Is the stuff stashed in France real? I doubt it.
1.02 In Brussels, no one can hear you scream
Heh. My favourite moment was when I all but heard the 'snap!' as the trap closed around Kruse. The rat. He really didn’t get why Birgitte was so angry and disgusted with him as a human being and his party leader.
I bet she will add all the fighting with Bent to the list of things she feels guilty about. It was awful to see them fight - as much to do with the divorce as anything, on her side.
Politically, I rolled my eyes at how much they’d made it up on the fly. Surely someone other than Bent should have come up with a list. No wonder the Danish Sir Humphrey thinks he can manipulate them with his own agenda.
I expect Birgitte will have to pay a price with Labour and the odious Pernille.
Meanwhile, Kaspar learns what was obvious to us all. Katrine is kind of willing to let Hanne have a figurative chance to be a better mother, because she’s a decent woman. I loved her eyerolling at the green new kid from TV1 and how she didn’t hesitate to type up her exclusive, even if it was because Kaspar is lovelorn. BUT Hanne's obviously not got her act fully together again :( It's good, after making him so one-note, that we're seeing some of Laugeson's shrewedness. It was just a second, but it was there.
Hilarious that they didn’t provide subtitles for the French. Also, KASPAR’S FACE when Kruse praised Birgitte for speaking it.
And aww, at the end.
I am glad it's back. I sometimes think the critical praise lavished at it is a little lacking in critical thought, because there are sacrifices and simplifications for Teh Dramah, but it is the good stuff.
I have been continuing to watch Community season 2, and reached 2.21 Paradigms of Human Memory. I had to put it on pause because I was laughing so hard. Has any show addressed fanvids so explicitly? I remember there was talk about it on the season 1 commentary track(s). What was the fanvid community's reaction? I was also extra amused because I have a list of a few fanvids with spoilers for season 2 that I plan to watch after I've seen the next three episodes.
