shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (DS9 Kira Nerys)
I’ve been reposting some ficlets to Dreamwidth and AO3 the last couple of days, one Dark Angel gen, baby’s first Sky High ficlets: two featuring Warren/Layla pining and one gen fic from Principal Power’s POV. I’ve still got a pile of fics to repost whenever I have the bandwidth. Trying to work out what I was thinking when it came to formatting and titles of documents in 2006 was a challenge..

Last night, I took advantage of the fact the BBC now has Battlestar Galactica on the iPlayer and I can watch that on my telly and watched the first part of the miniseries. I’m in – I thought I would be, but I was also curious, because I come at it having read some novelisations of the original series (don’t judge), not being able to see it when it first aired, but having picked up a lot by fannish osmosis.

Ahahahahahahahah.

So, some of my assumptions from the last episode were TOTALLY upended, while other things remained constant spoilers )

I've really enjoyed this show. At it’s best, it’s been pretty good and it’s never been less than enthralling. I'm looking forward to the second series.

I understand that an episode will be following on from Thor 2. It’s fun to speculate on how and which aspects it’ll be picking up on. mild spoiler for Thor 2 )

Finally (all caps time) BORGEN SERIES 3 IS AIRING ON BBC4 NEXT SATURDAY.

It seems like they'll be airing it in a double bill.
shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (The Good Wife Diane Lockhart s3)
On Monday night, I got to see A Hijacking, an intense Danish thriller about Somali pirates taking over a boat*. The film follows two strands – what happens to the crew on the boat and what happens at the shipping company back in Denmark where they’re trying to negotiate for their release. Three of the main characters are familiar faces from Borgen – Kaspar, Torbin and Amir (although you aren’t really thinking of that more than you would when recognising any good actor from something else; Soren Malling in particular was really good as Peter). It is a pretty good film that grows in power.

(*This was a plotline on Borgen, wasn’t it?)

shallowness: Sky High's Warren Peace smiling (Warren Peace smiles!)
This weekend The AV Club reminded me of how much I love Sky High: Believe it or not, Sky High is a blast

and
John Mullan wrote an interesting article about dancing and balls in Jane Austen (It’s to promote a TV show on the subject that I’ll try to catch.)

And then at various points in the past, I read/came across this other stuff too...Read more... )

First, It’s been announced that BBC4 have got the rights to and will be airing Borgen (PHEW). I won’t link to the article that informed me of this, because it was mildly spoily about the set-up.

The Hour has been cancelled!

I'm really put out by this. I thought it was improving - and I wanted to know what happened next. spoilers? ) I thought it was such a prestige project (eg it was nominated for a Golden Globe quite recently) that I didn't even question that it wouldn't be back, tbh. And with Ben Wishaw's stock rising post-Q and all. I didn't keep an eye on the ratings. I suppose in these times of budget cuts that they do matter, and despite being a gorgeous show, it was far from flawless, but it was engaging.

To rub salt into the wound, I saw an advert for all the drama on BBC2 (shown on BBC1) last night, which contained clips from The Hour.

Also, should I be worried about Borgen series 3 appearing on BBC4 - the report linked above talks about the channel focusing on factual and comedy programming? Surely not - the channel's made such a lot out of its intelligent international drama niche: Spiral, Scandi noir, BORGEN... But if they're stopping doing homegrown dramas on that channel, that's going to seem a bit weird. Would they move it to BBC2?

Last night, I also watched the Nashville pilot.

Coming in, on the one hand, I don’t like country music much, on the other, I rate Connie ‘Y’all’ Britton very highly (although I only ever saw the first series of Friday Night Lights). It’s airing here straight after The Good Wife, which isn’t a bad lead-up, except it starts at 10 pm, so I would very rarely catch it live.

reaction ) Based on all that, I think this will go to the bottom of the pile of shows I will catch up on.

Despite really wanting to know what happened next, I decided to leave the next episode for iPlayer. I don’t really understand why BBC4 are double-billing every episode of this show. Seeing as it's such a hit (in BBC4 terms/among the chattering classes), wouldn’t they want to draw it out?

I am glad it's back. I sometimes think the critical praise lavished at it is a little lacking in critical thought, because there are sacrifices and simplifications for Teh Dramah, but it is the good stuff.

I have been continuing to watch Community season 2, and reached 2.21 Paradigms of Human Memory. I had to put it on pause because I was laughing so hard. serious question )
