Agents of SHIELD double-bill
Feb. 21st, 2017 07:42 am4.3 Uprising
Caught up with this one online.
It’s wrong, but for the beginning of this episode I was busy being unimpressed by this Inhuman Resistance’s prioritisation of cities. No offence, Miami. At first it seemed like they’d picked the order to suit the plot (i.e. where our heroes were), although it eventually turned around to have an in-inuniverse reason.
Elena gets cool points for her choice of sensible heels. (Mack might be mad with her but he seemed upset enough that their call was cut off and she was in danger. I would prefer it if Yo-Yo stayed alive instead of getting tragically killed and some sort of Mack/Daisy/Robbie triangle developing, SHOW.)
Meanwhile Coulson was made to worry about May. Aww, I trust Simmons, but I think Coulson seriously considered resigning and then realised he still wouldn’t get to May. Perhaps I was projecting.
Hello, Parminder Nagra’s American accent – mildly disconcerting though you are.
Fitz was a bit cocky, so I wasn’t surprised that when the EMP’s range disabled all his stuff. His scorn at everyone's failure at rudimentary science was beautiful.
Oh, Elena your friend is a bigot (remember when Mack was one about Inhumans?)
On the other hand, Daisy continued to have a blindspot about Inhumans – they’re as capable of being terrorists as anyone (although the previously suggested it was really the Watchdogs).
Daisy and we learned more about Robbie the Ghost Rider and his family and its history, so he’s sticking. I thought Gabe was pro his brother hanging out with a lady who can take care of herself, but he was suspicious of her heavy mascara. His actually calling her ‘Quake’ seemed a bit too knowledgeable, although the next episode backed up that she's made a vigilante reputation for herself with the tag. He didn’t seem to have changed his mind about her not being good people after the unity speech.
I liked how Hannah and Henstridge bounced off each other. And despite Simmons’s epic grief and panic at losing May, I’d remembered Ada long before Radcliffe so I wasn’t worried much.
I’d like to see Steve Rogers face after learning that SHIELD is back. A shocking surprise to no-one on Team Cap’s side that the registered list got leaked to the wrong people, of whom Senator Nadir is one – yay! More Nagra. So was her brother in that state because of terragenesis or was it something else, because why didn’t he transform or crumble?
Episode 4 Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire
I watched this one live.
I enjoyed watching Jemma and Daisy work together, particularly liking Jemma’s bluntness that Daisy can’t have it both ways and surprising her with her competence and seniority. Of course, both seemed to forget that, fundamentally, James is a jerk. Fine, try to save his life, but don't trust him so much.
As for the big old car chase, no Mack, you (or the big black stuntman) wasn’t going to get to drive. While I felt other viewers must have adored the chase, while I watched it at a remove, I was amused at the end of it, invisible jet beats car. So, Coulson finally met Ghost Rider (and Ada) and co-opted him and Daisy into SHIELD to look for the ‘magic book’ – and with no director to report to in this episode, he got to be the man in the suit of (new and ‘improved’) SHIELD and boss everyone about, reunite with his surrogate daughter and May was not dead.
Lots of references to Fury recently.
May is going to be annoyed that she was subject to tests she didn’t know about, but of course she thouht Ada was sensible.
Simmons getting that she was a robot immediately was amusing. I found Fitzsimmns' coupledom cute all episode.
So, I seem to have settled down to this season even though some of the things that irritated me are still around. I suppose that I like eye-rolling (as well as being invested in certain characters), for I didn't seriously contemplate watching SS-GB over this, although I might catch up with that yet.
