4.7 Deals with our devils
While I think what they did was a lot less clever than the people making the show probably did – it involved lots of characters conveniently talking to themselves, and I’d have liked a better explanation for Ada hearing ghosts – it was all entertaining enough.
In normal filters, May and Mack realised Coulson, Fitz and Robbie had gone after the wave. May was as badly affected as Fitz did over the separation from the acknowledged love of his life, but reacted Mayishly. But under all that, there was this desperation that maybe he wasn’t gone gone, and I was irritated by the show for not going a few steps further and acknowledging the ship.
In the browner filter, Couslon, Fitz and Robbie realised nobody could hear them or sense them (until they convenienly could – Robbie was the most badly affected and yet he could thump the car to communicate with Daisy?) and then we had several scenes replayed now with the ‘ghosts’, but only half the time did they add something new. I thought Mace was written well.
In normal filters, we found out what Jemma Was Up To and it was slightly less exciting than in previous seasons. She helped that Senator’s brother emerge from terregenesis, because she’s a good scientist and human being – I bet she’s made another swain. The reunion with Fitz, even though she didn’t know he was ‘gone’ was rather touching.
I saw even more seeds sown for Daisy/Robbie, and then he took back the Rider, because of course he did, although I thought it was effective to have him speak through Mack (I’d have thrown Mack under a bus and let him keep the thing. I also don’t care what pain he’s in.) So, Eli is the current big bad with personal connections to Robbie, at least, while he’s doing scary enough stuff to interest SHIELD.
REALLY good clearing of the air between Fitz and Coulson about Coulson’s decision to step down as Director. Both had good points – Fitz in seeing it as running away (like Daisy, who again left) and Coulson’s probably accurate contention that it was the best he could do for his team in the sitch. Anyway, I’ll take Coulson fighting for life/to stay/knowing how much he means to May, even if it was played too platonically for my liking.
I was dubious about the book being readable for Ada, but I liked that it was in code. Of course, Radcliffe hasn’t noted that she’s affected. The reveal that she’s an android to May and Coulson was…briskly done.
I hope my next post will be a review of Logan.
