I thought about splitting this reaction post into lists of good ideas and bad ideas. I think it went ‘putting Mack in a suit = good idea’. I also spent an inordinate amount of time checking he wasn’t wearing the same type of tie as Coulson.
Bad ideas included: not taking survival gear off the crashed zephyr, although they were carrying weapons – they were fortunate that they had the ranger’s station or Mace might have bled out; Building all these robots is still a bad idea; Jemma being so hardline on Ada v1.0 is a bad idea, but what Fitz is doing with her is also a bad idea; trying to distract May with a virtual spa was a bad idea; May, who was remarkably fit for someone who’s been drugged and immobile fora es, fighting a robot was a bad idea; reusing Daisy’s dad’s drugs was, as Fitzsimmons pointed out, a bad idea.
I’m sure there were more good ideas.
It ended on rather a heartbreaking moment. In all seriousness, Not!May realising that she was a robot, that the ‘something that was off’ was her...ouch. I’d thought Daisy who was talking the most with her might notice something was off – she was much chirpier than our May! To make it Not!May herself was clever, makes me have more sympathy for her, and now that I think about it, was seeded in her maker’s cockiness.
Less seriously, I was gutted to realise Not!May could be referred to as the ‘Maybot’ but I believe that name has been taken.
Talbot did a lot of blustering in this episode, but the main thing was that the team’s suspicion of Director Mace turned out to be justified because he was a phoney. So, Coulson is back in the driver’s seat, although I’m wondering how long before we get Director Johnson (Mack’s the only one who’s been interim Director, right? Although May has surely been in charge before.) I wouldn’t mind seineg Director Simmons in action, actually, because she’s quite good at being a boss, quite terrifying when she needs to be. I’ll spare you me reading too much into how they’re writing Fitzsimmons as a couple.
