[personal profile] shallowness
ITT Friday was indeed emotional, what with the hysteria after a long run and the excitement about the final and being in the Strictly studio. I can't say I'm excited about any of the judges' choices - I think Gemma and Aljiaz's was the one I liked the most the first time around. But the clips from families and friends? So many cute litte nicees, nephews and godshildren! I didn't realise Debbie had lost her father relatively recently also, no wonder it's been a tough few years for her, and Alexandra was, unsurprisingly, in bits. Although he didn't win the Friday panel, Rufus Hound pithily summed up the four finalists' strengths.

Love, Lies & Records episode 5 (I called it Lies, Love and Records last week)

Morning after the night before, and Kate was dreaming waking up to Rick, not Rob, who was now her fiancé. We had a tearful meltdown from her during the episode, and I could still see her ending up in a foetal ball by the final episode, although obviously the show isn’t going to end like that. (Will it end on a cliffhanger? I’m not familiar enough with Mellor’s work to know.)

After pressure from his boss – yes, it IS one thing after another at this registry office, although it does appear to be over a stretched out period of time - Kate picked things up professionally by getting Judy on her side over the sham wedding with facts. Judy’s time as chief villain seems to be over as Marcia lied like an unblinking serpent in the police cell (almost The Bill levels of acting from the guy who was meant to be Rob’s assistant and didn’t have any lines. Although years of watching The Bill etc made me think Rob should have made it clear for the recording/filming what pictures he was showing Marcia). Even though they had enough to question her, the cops didn’t have enough to nail her, which was apparently not obvious to Rob.

Two very nice moments: the realisation that Rob wanted a quick wedding and might even have proposed immediately because he’d got ‘taking the fortnight off = honeymoon’ fixed in his head. The other was when Kate admitted to Rick that what she was most afraid of was being alone, which explains so much of why she’s a people person, so empathic etc. Heartlessly, I thought it mightn’t do her any harm to be alone and figure out what she wanted, instead of putting herself in this situation, and I doubt her two teenage kids would walk out on her, especially the boy, who isn’t Rob’s, even if they did find out she’d cheated.

But the love triangle got even pointier as the stakes were raised and the message from the people coming in to register stuff, most especially the mother who’d got pregnant off a drunken encounter, was ‘Don’t live a lie’. And then there was Jamie, back to being James, although you got the sense he’d never please himself or his angry, controlling wife.

And Kate had never thought that she ought to front up with the man she was committing her life to, because she wanted to keep other people happy. And she wanted to keep the notice of marriage a secret from Rick, which was never going to work, and of course it ended up that he had to do the interview, and it was awkward and heartbreaking, and rather well done because of Rob’s ignorance.

I again found myself saying ‘stop stringing him along’, at one of Kate’s early conversations with Rick, where she was asking too much of him. Also, he and Olivia are dunzo in his mind, and it’s his business if he doesn’t want to get back with her, KATE, and probably for the best if he wants to start something with someone else called Kate. Also, I agree that Elle may be trying to squeeze her biological dad for cash, but it’s hilarious that Kate was the one pointing it out, given that ultimately, she strung Rick along some more. The kissing was inevitable given what he’d said and what she’d been fantasising and everything that was building up, but her mind hadn’t been changed. So, again, his looking for another job (and he’ll probably not want to move because of Elle, so it’ll be a switch in career!) makes total sense. In hindsight, I think that kiss could have been shot better, btw.

Meanwhile, the engaged couple were still snapping at each other all the time. Apart from a few moments where they were a team giving their daughter a dog And then…well, at least he only saw the pictures, damning enough though they were (but angry!Olivia probably has the video covered), but yeah, that storm looks like it’s broken.

Dominika continued to be a terribly unprofessional interpreter, even if, for once, she was there on the up and up.
