shallowness: Catwoman looking at the Batsign in the Gotham City night sky (Catwoman watching Batverse films)

Gotham 4.7 A Day in the Narrows

Professor Pyg stayed around – the whole line about spelling his name with a ‘y’ because it’s short for Pygmalion would have landed better if the newspapers hadn’t got it right. He didn’t physically invade the precinct, but sent in 24 pigs’ heads in boxes. Harvey was back with a bandage on his neck – I felt the show could have had getting Pyg be personal for him and put his recovery in doubt a little more. But it was more interested in his corruption, Jim seeing that and continuing his one-man crusade to make GCPD what it ought to be (not threatening people on an oxygen cylinder). By being all heroic, he won over some cops and undermined Harvey, who had made a very bad call. (I think I like the new lady cop.)

This was not helped by Penguin (and some extremely ridiculous hair, even if it was suggesting his penguinosity and that Oswald has issues with his height) deciding to respond to the missus’ needling by playing a bigger role in the GCPD’s investiation. First off, he sent Mr Headhunter, who even the show found irritating. I am not upset Penguin killed him off, because I spent all of his screentime moaning about how I missed Victor. Penguin and The Girl at Sofia’s orphanage were funny (although why just stop her from listening in to the very tame exchange of views? Why not the other kids?)

Bruce was So. Angry. All. The. Time. (If you didn’t get that already, there were the helpful close-up shots of the closing fist.) Which feels like Ra’s’s gift to his heir. Alfred tried to push to get him to talk about his real feelings about killing Ra’s. Some girl his age in a short skirt came along and whisked him to hang out with some other right kids, and Bruce was more into that. The guy he’d trounced in the previouslies admitted he’d deserved it, we met an even bigger jerk, but the biggest jerk of all was…Bruce as he turned into the buy everything billionaire Bruce brat he’d been pretending to be a few episodes ago, snogging Grace between swigging champagne. I think Alfred will have to step up on the parenting front there. And steal the stolen shades and destroy them.

My bright ideas include: putting him in front of the punch-bag, forcing him to talk and sending him to the fight club that Lee works at. (I am not a parent.)

We got a little Selina (but not enough, I craved more of this storyline, and for it to be better) and her two big sisters/moms. Babs was all for shutting their little thing down before it had even begun now that Ra’s had gone. Selina was verklempt and didn’t follow Tabitha’s advice. But her version of calling home for a ride because the party she’d gone to had turnd a little sour and her lift had left her stranded was amusing. There was a lot of mental handwaving at Selina getting stuck there, let alone Tabitha, but Babs turned up to save them (by killing, as she pointed out) and Selina got the family she wanted (of capable women looking to steal stuff.) And we had a cool slo-mo walk of the three of them, with a masked Selina.

Sporadically entertaining, and we got to see that Pyg is someone new, but the storyline I wanted more of was Selina and Tabitha and Babs.
