A good little episode. Selina’s storyline was ace – not being a hero (and certainly not THE hero. Sigh, why was the Catwoman movie SO BAD?), but having her own morality. I did notice how Bruce was all MY PROBLEMS, Selina was all Ivy is going to kill loads of people, and Bruce was still focused on his problems. Although I don’t know if she’ll get to face Ivy again, what was striking was that Selina’s done all this growing up as a person naturally since she hung out with Ivy Mark 1. I can deal with Poison Ivy as is, but she really isn’t the Ivy whose father was shot, is she, and it’s too much of a leap to care for her like we care for Selina who’s friends are turning into mass murderers.
Also, Selina was brilliant at seeing through Bruce, and prioritising him appropriately. As I’d been suggesting to the screen that he actually said ‘sorry’ to Alfred, I thoroughly agreed with her on that.
Lots of rather moving interactions - Bruce and Alfred, even Jim and Harvey, and (urgh) I felt for poor Ed, getting played by himself. It says everything about how off-kilter this show is that they were playing suicide as an act of love. And I want to say the floor fell out from under Ed's feet anyway, as his alter ego was freed. The actor playing him had a ball, and actually underplayed the final transformation, which worked because we’d seen so much Riddler. And he, Penguin and Jerome are now at Arkham.
It was also fascinating to see what Lee and for that matter Sofia would do…I’m not overjoyed that Jim has been brought into this, although he had to be, I guess.
Another fundraiser goes awry…instead of being Batman, Bruce could improve the security, although, okay, I don’t see how anyone without Kevlar and a gas mask or a genetic predisposition to withstand her (Solomon G?) is going to stop Ivy, which is my problem with Jim claiming the GCPD will bring her down. That’s Jim Gordon, still rushing into dangerous situations on his own. Selina’s appeal to their past has surely run out.
I possibly had more thoughts at the time, most certainly about Bruce returning to becoming Batman but not much time to do more than jot down notes on Wednesday, which I’ve expanded on now.
