I watched the Brits last night
Feb. 21st, 2013 07:59 amI don't normally do that. At most, I tend to dip in and out, I think. I blame Paloma Faith's hair (or curiosity). Mostly, my reward was to feel old and mean. The result I was best pleased with was Lana Del Ray's win. This is even though I hate the H+M ads (but I was rooting for it not to be Rihanna and Sharon Osbourne had managed to make it awkward if it had been Taylor Swift.)
Um, is it me, or does Beyonce seen lightened in those ads?
Back to Taylor Swift, I did worry about her knees at some point - see, old.
I had grumbles about nearly all the live performances (Muse - miming and probably better in the room, Justin 'Narcissus' Timberlake giving it some welly for a terrible song, One Direction's flat singing taking away from their far from flat hair). My favourite was Ben Howard - I didn't have a clue who he was when Breakthrough Act was up; the song clip sounded vaguely familiar - I'm a sucker for male-female duets, though.
Mostly, I was 'meh' about the winners (the Brits are commericalised, even though I think they managed to get the youngish but credible balance right). I think Emili Sande is overrated as an artist, although she was very graceful all through the night. On the other hand, James Corden could be very unctuous and wasn't really funny enough.
I was amused that pretending to be married was a theme (less amused by how they flogged the interrupting Adele incident from last year to death. ITV surely missed a trick by not having Adele commentary 'available on the red button'.)
