I’m very pleased that James Gunn has been reinstated to direct GatG3. From the article, it sounds as if Marvel argued for him, also that there’s co-operation with Warners/DC (!)

I watched Comic Relief until the end of Comic Relief does University Challenge (I don’t think that 8 Cats does Countdown needs to be worried, while the voice of UC does not look like I expected.)

Mamma Mia! – Here We Go Yet Again was a hilarious takedown of the film (WITH CHER!!!) I could have stood to see more of Phillip Gleinster’s Pierce Brosnan, and thought Tom Hollander did excellent work as Andy Garcia. Sure, most of the Cher jokes were one-dimensional, but still funny. I expected her to be played by Dawn French, but Jennifer Saunders did a good job, and I’m still giggling at her ‘singing’ as Dead!Meryl Streep. There was also the sense of insider ribbing at the film makers.

The Bodyguard sketch was basically about everyone involved showing they were good sports. It got all very open about the objectification of Richard Madden, and then I presume that was a Line of Duty reference, before it devolved into weirdness – Ab Fab’s Patsy actually being the stand-in PM, Juliet in the boot of the care. Although I was left wondering what it would look like if David Budd ended up in the Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes universe (thanks to Hawes’s character being dead and having seen Glennister earlier in the night). Scary weird, I imagine.

‘The Girl I Used to Know’ was the standout song – I tuned out of Emili Sande’s turn and even Keane doing Somewhere Only We Know (again). The song worked heartbreakingly over footage of child brides contrasted with girls who are staying in school, Rae Morris made it her own.

Of the three presenting pairs I saw, Alesha Dixon (infectious chuckle, grabby hands, tendency to objectify men) and Romesh Ranganathan were the strongest (Emma Willis and Paddy McGuiness were all over the place, and David Tennant looked petrified – they all owed a lot to Lenny Henry).

I watched the Four Weddings sequel, although I wasn’t that invested. I mean, I saw the film when it came out, and maybe have seen clips since, but I didn’t feel strongly that Charles should have chosen Fi. It quickly became obvious that Curtis had gone for letting their children marry, although the twist was that they were Hollywood Stars, er, women. (And there I was wondering if Gemma Arterton had had to have apologetic conversations with Lily James about Mamma Mia! 2, but I daresay she was all, ‘La, la, la. I’m working with Richard Curtis and Oscar winners.’ I think everyone had their moment, there were a couple of Spooks faces, and I caught that Alicia Vikander’s character was named Scarlett, which was a lovely gesture (to Charlotte Coleman’s character).
