I liked that Holt’s reaction to the him-specific prank bridged the credits. Holt being snitty about peers and superiors is always fun, as was Charles being left out of the group texts and…cannibalistic chat rooms. This was not a great episode to catch up on while eating. (I had a wary eye on the coroner that Jake was ‘vibing’ with.)
Jefford’s promotion meaning a transfer and his attempts to get out of it was only notable for me for the unleashing of scary Santiago. I didn’t really believe he’d get sent away. I still don’t after the episode.
The reveal that under the twinkly-eyed rivalry, John Kelly was truly up to no good was nice ballast. Two DCU references from Jake, before he came up with more awful faces from the past to help Holt bring them down.
Boyle made me snicker a lot this episode.
I say ‘double bill’ but it was more than a week before I watched the next episode and season finale.
6.18 Suicide Squad
Holt vs Munch, trading insults, is enormous fun. We had a brief resurfacing of Charles’s shippiness, but it didn’t become a running gag.
Yeah, no way the plan is going to go down anything like you think, JAKE. The masks threw CJ, and by the time Rosa turned up, it wasn’t just Terry who was imploding.
But we had dancing while trading insults. Hitchcock and Scully were mildly useful, and those heist planning skills became useful and Daddy Holt was proud of Jake, but Munch ended up with so much power. Unsurprising that Lieutenant!Terry would be staying, but I admit I laughed at Holt’s fate (because I don’t think it’ll stick. Perhaps someone else will become Real and Proper Commissioner.)
I do find it a job to keep up with this show – always have – but I’m glad it got saved.
