The Mentalist
I’ve been wondering this for a bit, but the actress who plays Van Pelt is pregnant, isn’t she?
Sadly, Demand five is still not showing the whole of these episodes - it's cutting out during the final (as far as I know) scene. It's really annoying.
5.12 Little Red Corvette
Lots of exposition about Lisbon’s previous doings with Volker: he killed a tribe of native Brazilians, but what gets to Lisbon is that he killed her witness. And he’s an arrogant so-and-so who is trying to insinuate that they have something going on. So she plays into Jane’s hands, by crossing all kinds of lines, offering a favour to Brenda, blackmailing the DDA to see a witness she isn’t allowed to and lying to a judge. Sigh. Even though Volker has eighties evil baddie hair, that makes me sad because of the ramifications for Red John and Jane and the endgame.
There was also a bit where Lisbon was stupid with the rage that's driving her and went to visit one of Volker’s companies, only changing her mind once she was there and being filmed by his security camera. Teresa, ILU, but it serves you right that he'd packed everything up by the time you returned with your ill-gotten warrant.
My computer stopped working between Cho’s stupid ‘How did he know?’ and Lisbon’s fit of temper, BTW, and there was a gap of about 24 hours before I eatched the rest of the episode.
Oooh, Brenda. I have always found her a bit underwhelming, but for Volker to have enough on her to get her to endanger an innocent child...And surely that will make her susceptible to Red John should he want to use it. Even hardened mercs had the line of not killing a child! I presume that’s the end of Volker, although I’d have thought his expensive lawyers would have a field day with Lisbon punching him.
Heh, Redlands zoo.
Baker had had his hair cut and Lisbon’s wardrobe choices were great.
5.13 The Red Barn
Apart from Rigsby and the screenwriters’ heads, in what ‘verse would people celebrate a detective joining CBI by hiring a stripper? (I don’t think Jane knew. He’d have come up with something more elaborate and more childish.) So, Jane and Cho left Lisbon to be sexually harassed (DEEPLY UNAMUSING, SHOW) and find some dead bodies that maybe Red John killed a while ago.
Cho was funny about Rigsby.
Lisbon’s coat!!! (There seems to be a dearth of season 5 icons. I remember when there was a choice of icons for every episode. The show’s still pretty and striking looking, icon-makers.)
And then there was a link to the Not!Scientologists, but instead of Malcolm Macdowell, we get Robert Picardo and some glasses that gave me flashbacks to NHS glasses.
That priest is on my list of Red John suspects (although he seems taller than the guy who killed Rebecca and even though I agreed with him when Van Pelt cheerfully waffled on about the positive aspects of Visualise’s beliefs.)
I always thought Lisbon would say ‘no’ to the job offer – Jane aside, she likes being an agent of the law and she’d probably hack off the high-end clients trying to do what she thought was right, which would make her terrible at it – but once we saw the big Ray reveal, it was always going to be an emphatic ‘no’. Given the hinted connections between Visualize and Red John, Lisbon’s face as she realised that there were tentacles everywhere was priceless.
The gun-toting farmer neighbour was entertaining. Slightly more so than the Jane-Lisbon business over the door to his den, until he accepted her calling him on being partners and let her in...and then, yet again, five cut off half of the last scene and, whereas they cheated me of an emotional pay-off in the last episode, here it was dialogue that might be pertinent to the arc – and Ray. It cut off after Jane admitted he might have forgotten one or two people he shook hands with. And what next? I'm almost minded to hunt up a transcript to find out, although they'll probably cover it in exposition.
