shallowness: Margaret Hale of North and South adaptation sitting at desk writing (Margaret North and South writing)

On Sunday, I posted The Timepiece a Sidney-centric Sanditon ficlet (spoilers for 1.08) in which writer!me is more sympathetic to him than viewer!me. The prompt ‘my only love’ spoke to me – this idea that Charlotte was the only woman he could love now - and I came up with the scene, which is basically a wallow in his head and heart. I’ve had other ideas about Sanditon fic, but it was a case of right prompt, right time.

I wish there were Sanditon icons.

On Tuesday night, I watched Zhang Yimou’s Shadow on DVD, which looks brilliant (of course), all blacks, whites, greys and amazing production design, but nearly all the characters are crazysauce (many of them have their reasons when you learn about their upbringing. Most of them let out a primal scream at some point or a maniacal laugh.) I wish there had been more action, because what there is, especially with the umbrellas, is great. It’s no Hero, but I’m feeling like revisiting House of the Flying Daggers, which I never got on DVD, because I didn't rate it as highly.

I find I'm more sympathetic for Sidney when reading than writing. I'm interested to read ways various writers have to fix-it, so long as they treat Sidney as a responsible adult.

My last ficlet went dark. The Power of Whispers

And yes, icons would be good.
