Writing and watching wuxia
Nov. 14th, 2019 07:10 amOn Sunday, I posted The Timepiece a Sidney-centric Sanditon ficlet (spoilers for 1.08) in which writer!me is more sympathetic to him than viewer!me. The prompt ‘my only love’ spoke to me – this idea that Charlotte was the only woman he could love now - and I came up with the scene, which is basically a wallow in his head and heart. I’ve had other ideas about Sanditon fic, but it was a case of right prompt, right time.
I wish there were Sanditon icons.
On Tuesday night, I watched Zhang Yimou’s Shadow on DVD, which looks brilliant (of course), all blacks, whites, greys and amazing production design, but nearly all the characters are crazysauce (many of them have their reasons when you learn about their upbringing. Most of them let out a primal scream at some point or a maniacal laugh.) I wish there had been more action, because what there is, especially with the umbrellas, is great. It’s no Hero, but I’m feeling like revisiting House of the Flying Daggers, which I never got on DVD, because I didn't rate it as highly.

The scarcity of icons makes me miss LJ/SW's heyday.
