I posted a ficlet. How Pandora Felt (After Opening the Box) Scorpion, Paige/Walter, post 2.01 ‘Satellite of Love’. I wrote the first draft the day after seeing the episode. I think I’d seen the kiss out of context on fanvids and whatnot before. Seeing the episode, by the way, ruined any minimal chance of my writing any further ‘looking at me, looking at you’ my post s1 fic. There was some redrafting since then.
I suppose I put the title in upper case because of the proper noun in it. The title came along with the idea of ‘Well, now she knows what it’s like’, but I don’t delve into the story of Pandora’s box.
I also watched X3, after debating with my completeist self whether I wanted to, really. It’s so bad, but I hope to get Dark Phoenix on DVD soon, which is not so bad, and I wanted to compare.
X3 is such a drop off from X2 (which I watched the pervious weekend and X-Men the weekend before), although it is not as bad as Batman and Robin. It doesn’t misjudge its tone so much, although some of the lines are equally bad.
That’s not to say I don’t hate most of the choices made in X3. I am always furious with both Charles and Erik throughout, I think that the black hole of Logan’s popularity warps the story, and even though they’re really trying to give Halle Berry more to do, they give stuff to Logan at the expense of Jean’s best friend and Scott’s longstanding colleague for the sake of a love triangle I don’t care about. The film messes with characters I have gown to care about – Scott, Mystique and Rogue. Well, Rogue wanting the cure makes sense, but I hate that we don’t get to see her become a fully-fledged team member as we do Bobby and Kitty. It lets John’s narrative about Rogue stick, especially given what happens with her character in the theatrical version of DoFP.
And in the middle section JEAN JUST STANDS AROUND UNTIL IT’S TIME FOR HER TO GO ALL LEVEL 5 and she’s still a damsel in distress, needing Logan to kill her. Urgh. (Dark Phoenix is better in that regard.)
Kitty Pryde is the least problematic character in the film, and then in the credits Vinnie Jones gets higher placed than Ellen Page In short, X3 had Juggernaut (the film crams in too many new people) and X2 had Nightcrawler.
I let the DVD play on, and was surprised by the post-credits scene, which at least makes Xavier’s return in future movies less ‘Whuh?’ although the fact that some things in this film don’t stick (mainly the cure) is also enraging. I don’t remember if I have seen that scene before.
At least Storm’s hair is better than it was in the first two movies.
