Belatedly!

I liked the storytelling of the opening pro dance, although I clearly wasn’t swept away entirely by the innocent lovers, because I wa thinking that Kai is getting typecast as the one royalty wants to dance with already, and Nadiya’s also done a lot of princessing this series (though I think she said she was a queen here on ITT) and wondering if the music was really a version of Land of Hope and Glory, but when Gorka and his minions entered out of the mirror/picture, things pepped up. Fabulous ending except that I wouldn’t have minded to see part 2 of the story within the mirrorworld.

TessnClaud had changed into different black dresses but in a similar style to each other’s, while the judges had also got out of their costumes, and in his least boring week sartorially, Anton went for the TWO bony hands on his shoulders jacket.

Recap claiming most of the top half and Dan got all positive comments, while the bottom of the leaderboard got more mixed stuff.

First called safe was Rhys, which was nice, he and Nancy were so relieved. Among a lot of people you’d expect to be called safe were Dan, and people were wiling to give Sara another second chance for her ballroom/accepted it was clearly Aljiaz’s fault, and Adam was in the dance off. So, other people hadn’t liked what he did and were unconvinced by the pairing too.

I was mainly offended that they’d gone ‘wacky comedy scary bones’ as a staging and dancing theme for Gregory Porter’s song, when the song was referring to Ezekiel’s dry bones and had nods to Negro spirituals and gospel. So, I noticed the big note and the dancers’ spinning even longer than it, but it was rather smothered by me being disappointed with Gregory Porter and the show.

Judges’ bit with Claudia, and I know I said I wanted to hear the judges discuss together, but I thought Anton’s interruption after Motsi’s comment about Rhys was long-winded, and she’d aready admitted that she saw ‘the boys’’ point. Anyway, it ended on the judges getting to see Rose and Giovanni’s reaction to their scores, and Craig explaining his 10 and Claudia calling him puppy.

With Sara safe, AJ and John were unnecessarily worried, while we all knew that Adam’s fate depened on whether it would be Tom or Judi. It was Judi, and she was pretty much already starting on her goodbyes, and who can blame her, she did her best to recover from COVID to get back under the red light for the third time? (From ITT, it sounded like she was physically suffering too.) Tess and Shirley tried to pretend that that solecism hadn’t happened and that she had a chance, while I wondered how much effort she’d bother to put in and could hardly blame her if the answer was ‘not very much’.

They started Adam’s routine with a wider shot that allowed us to see an AR phantom entering the piano and concentrate less on his fake playing. I don’t know if it was that, but he looked smoother, although I still think the choreography for the end where he fights her back into the piano wasn’t great. Then I was more focused on Judi at the beginning after Shirley’s comments. To be fair, I don’t think she stinted on the effort, but it was a forgone conclusion, despite Anton’s attempts to eke out the tension. Judi and Grazziano clearly were a couple who had gelled, and with Strictly/dancing having led to significant weight loss and quite possibly helping her recover from Covid better, plus giving her joy, I hope she does continue to dance.
