After they took it off

I’ve kept watching The Masked Singer. It’s been such a surreal ride (breakdancing hotdogs!) I guessed that Lionfish was Will Young, on the ep he was ejected, ditto Pat Cash. I started suspecting Robobunny of being Mark from Westlife quite early on, but once it was clear Doughnut was a footballer, I knew I never had a chance of guessing him. He stayed on too long.
I was one of those who wondered if Mushroom was Jane Horrocks before deciding that she was too young, but certainly from when she sang ‘Crazy’ onwards, she was clearly the best female singer left.
I clocked that Traffic Cone was Aled Jones the episode before he left, and got quite frustrated with the judges, because if they’d combined Rob Brydon with Russell Watson…they’d have got him. But the judges got to Charlotte Church before me. I never guessed who Rockhopper was, although given her variable performances, you can tell why she’s the least successful Destiny’s Childer (mean, but I didn’t like her since her response to being in the bottom two very early on in the series.)
After the randomness of Joan Collins, Joss ‘Sausage’ Stone returned as a judge for the final, radiating good vibes and having the same reaction we’d first had to Robobunny and his multiple personas (although by now one of them always sounded like Mark from Westlife to me), Panda’s cuteness and Mushroom’s voice. It was a really feelgood episode, but although I initially got excited about the duets, two of them were a bit staid, and Panda duetting with Hedgehog misleadingly led me to think ‘musical theatre’ again. Marvellous to hear Queen Bee!Nicola again, although she pretty much gave away that she thought it was Mark from Westlife, and if I’m honest, I was a little disappointed that Katherine Jenkins didn’t come back to duet ‘Enough is Enough’ with Mushroom.
Who fangirled the most? Rita when Robobunny was nmasked or Joel when he realised the cute panda he’d been hugging all series was crush object Natalie Imbruglia?
As for the crowning of the champion, I’m going to go all Welsh and say I’m disappointed that they didn’t go for the best voice (our Charlotte) but the cutest character instead. Props to Imbruglia, because I’d got no nearer than suspecting the voice was familiar, for convincing a lot of us she was American and flummoxing everyone, even the female judges who knew her well.

Yes, she was. Fair play to those who guessed correctly, I wasn't one of them.
I really liked Church's version of 'Crazy' but anything she did towards the end, the opera apart, is worth catching.
Michelle Williams might well be the first to appear on both versions, althouh I suppose it's increaingly likely that there'll be crossovers. They didn't make that much of it, IIRC.
