Season 8 settles down

These two eps weren’t watched as a double bill, I just didn't feel one response was enough for a post.
B99 8.3
It looks like the union man will be this season’s antagonist. I was amused, my favourite bit was Holt repeatedly calling Jefford ‘petard’ because it was nice to hear that expression used. But it continued to have pretty sad strands, with Charles facing his own mortality because of a cancer scare and Holt feeling like he was hitting a professional low because of the ridiculous sickies ‘the uniforms’ were taking (shouldn’t Sgt Santiago have had more to say about that?) The last joke, where they cut off the reveal of what Holt’s real embarrassing tattoo was had unfortunately been undermined for me because, due to catch-up shenanigans, we’d gone to break in the middle of a sentence in the middle ep.
I liked the idea of each precinct having its own Hitchcock and Scully, plus given the sound effects for Terry’s stomach bug, I’m glad I wasn’t eating when watching this ep.
8.4
I have no idea if Terry’s claim that he always closes his cases is supported by evidence, but ooh, that was a harsh dig at Jake, although I too found this whole arch nemesis we haven’t heard of a bit of a strain, although I guess they were playing with that. But he did turn out to be the killer and worthy of Jake’s description, and the reveal that he was the ‘cuddly’ childminder was seriously disturbing. But they know what they’re doing about making Jake likeable, because even if any detective other than Charles would have not let Jake do what he did on the case, Jake did recognise that Amy was the only one who could do her job and got the win of seeing Mac’s milestone.
That kid they’ve got to play Mac was SO CUTE.
It occurred to me as the Holt is Rosa’s new flatmate plotline developed, (I’m not convinced the timelines really worked) that they could have looked after Mac, except not while drunk or hungover obviously. And maybe Perralta and Santiago wouldn’t have wanted to expose how really tough childcare was to Holt.
Chatty!Holt is discombobulating! It also appears as though the precinct being better able to interpret Kevin to Holt is a thing this season.
Anyway, I winced for Amy walking into stuff, although that was all vanity not wearing her glasses, right? (I have Opinions about that kind of behaviour.)
Of course Cheddar has a French tutor!?!? All told, it was amusing and there were lots of other specificities that I enjoyed.
