Parks and Rec 2.9 The Camel

I feel like I should have intelligent stuff to say about an intelligent and funny episode (for future reference, it’s the one where the department plus Ann does a mural, while Ron Swanson likes having the idiot Andy shine his shoes). Pawnee’s government officials are a bit insane, which we knew, but now we see in new ways. Jerry’s mural was the best (aww, Jerry, they’re practically bullying you), accidental art patron Tom’s love affair with his painting convinced me it was second best and Brandanowitz’s secret wanting to be an artist under the cynicism was sweet. The ladies (bar Ann’s, maybe) productions were disturbing.

2.10 Hunting Trip

I thought this was better/funnier, although the previous episode might have had a warm-up effect, but the take on gender politics, the way everyone went insane after the shooting accident and April finding Andy’s stupidity endearing made me chuckle. Also, great to see Nurse Ann in action (pants Empress, say I).

5.19 Red-Letter Day

Sometimes it’s best just to be relaxed about this stuff, quoth Lisbon.

As, by this point, I was pretty wiped, I sympathised.

We started off with a murder in a faux Wild West town. Jane and Cho had to investigate because Lisbon was talking to Kevin from National Security (aka a Friend of Red John’s). Later, she called him creepy, to my relief. Because, yes. Jane left a stick in the door to his fortress of solitude, which had a wall of his Red John clues. As he’d never done this before since setting it up, I 'wondered' if that was significant.

In the town, we found out that Lily from Popular (seriously, Tamara Mello’s character has the same name!) was now a bartender, dressed up as an oldstyle one because the Mayor from Buffy ran a wild west show that’s trying to keep the town alive. It looked like he was failing.

Jane wound both him up and the magician act. (His professional sensibilities were offended by the latter. Understandably. Jane pulled off some cool tricks here.) He also started a brawl and left with a grin. Cho had to tidy it up.

There was Rigsby/Van Pelt stuff. We knew it was significant because she let a witness ask her if she was married. (Plus we're getting to the end of the season.) Mainly, we laughed with Cho at Rigsby. Only he was laughing inside. And really, Wayne, it's so much better when you man up.

I thought Lily was the dead guy’s daughter from early on, but I didn't quite put the pieces together until it was pretty much laid out. It feels like it’s been a while since we had a 'sympathetic' murderer.

I was mildly worried we were going to have Wayne/Grace liftiness (I have a sentimental attachment to the notion that that belongs to Jane and Lisbon, okay), but no, she has a new boyfriend whom she gave away that she didn’t want compared with the taller Wayne and his less receding headline. I do hope she did a major background check on this guy and is convinced he’s not a psycho or in league with one. I’d need more than his getting into the White Hat programme having been through what she’s been through, although the show is wearing the past lightly. I don’t want a retread! Would Lisbon react differently if they rekindled things?

Having seen Jane smirking, I presume the wall was a set up. (Surely the Homeland Security lackey saw enough to make him want to go up the food chain and tell on Kevin’s rule-breaking? If he didn’t, I’ll just presume Kevin’s been grooming his team to break the rules.)

Yes, um. Still tired.
