Strictly Results: 14 become 13

Brilliant opening routine, I loved how the medley felt like Elvis reimagined or remixed and the dancing conveyed that. Favourite bit? Vito!Elvis making all the couples do acrobatics, but I liked all of it, really. Nikita and Karen were eye-catching, even if Nadiya was kinda Priscilla.
Sensible recap with judges’ input that started with the top dancers but intimated that the middle of the leaderboard was not particularly safe as well as the ones at the bottom.
It was soon clear, with Matt, James and Tony called safe, that we were in for a shock result, and the first celeb in danger was Fleur. As I said, that was my second favourite dance. We then pondered James Gunn (must be in the UK) vs. Boy George.
Adam Lambert sang well, and Nikita and Carlos (impressive lift) danced well so it balanced out nicely..
The judges were asked to mainly talk about the weaker dancers, and we were reminded that Shirley had got sniffy about Craig awarding Tony a 2 when she gave him a 4. Lovely fast-forward tribute to the crew’s hard work in prepping the dance floor. Motsi and Anton were the best dressed judges. (Put less effort into Halloween and more into movie night, judges!)
Second set of results and we all thought we knew where this was going. And then Ellie T was called safe and responded appropriately and understandably and we were all scrambling to work out what it meant – I didn’t remember what Fleur, Hamza and Richie’s scores were. But Richie and Giovanni were in trouble, and it was a bit horrible, because they didn’t deserve to be there either. But there were 14 couples dancing! There was no point my voting for my favourite because Tyler was top of the LB, and I didn’t actually think Fleur was in trouble, so I would have been torn between voting for Hamza and Ellie S, and I was determined not to vote yet. (Can’t we vote for who we want to go? That would have been easy: Tony.)
A bit of a singalong in the Clauditorium followed, covering that all the couples were jittery, with the weakest ones feeling guilty and grateful.
In the dance-off, all I could think of was how much better Richie’s samba was than Tony’s (and that I had thought Jayde would be out before him, although Jayde and Karen have clearly gelled a thousand times better than Richie and Gio) and that I hoped Fleur could keep her emotions in check and how horrid it was for Vito when he thought he’d had a good un and had starred as Elvis. Granted, it was classic the hazards of being in the middle of the leaderboard. Three of the judges went for my favourite of the two dances, interesting that Shirley would have saved Richie. (Producers will be pleased at having a shock boot.)
