OUAT ep 2.6 Tallahassee
The big thing I am confused about is the mechanics of how August posted that postcard. He was still prone, wooden and Pinnochio-ey when Gepetto found him thanks to Henry. So, while it’s nice that he kept his promise, (for once!) I simply don’t understand how.
I know this wasn’t the focus, but I am glad that three out of the four lady travellers got some downtime for processing. Mulan got the least screentime, and her main thing was that she was hilariously unsubtle about counting down the hours – but I hope we get the story of her sword some day. Snow bonding with Aurora over the after effects of sleeping curses was more what I was talking about. Am I reading too much into it, or was she lying about getting over the nightmares? (And I would have thought that being afraid that if you slept, you'd lose time would have been enough to make her afraid of sleeping. But no, the show had to supersize it.) So, Aurora is linked to Henry by dreams. I can’t think of any fairytale associations with red rooms (and I’m thinking more Jane Eyre than anything) but there was talk of blood and fire, which makes me think dragons. It also makes me think that a lit candle isn’t going to do much for someone who’s nightmare included flames...
There was also maternal!Snow in the middle of it all.
But mainly it was about Emma. And the backstory of Emma and the car.
And the guy who stole it first. I don’t know if I was burned by potential Emma/Graham, but I’m lukewarm about all the pairings on offer for her and may never be more invested than I am with her relationship with her family by blood. I thought that if Emma was less flustered around Hook, he’d bother her less. I also think that her instinct to be pragmatic but wary is sound.
So, the guy in New York is Neal and Henry’s dad! While he has a scruffy charm, he was less convincingly young than Morrison in the flashback scenes, but then didn’t have the option of ponytail and glasses. But really, he’s the least good looking of all the men they’ve dangled around Emma. And although he tired first of their being Bonnie and Clyde, both their ideas of getting out of the crime business were warped.
It was good to see August return (how bossy and self-righteous he was when he’d failed so much. Er, how human) – so he wasn’t completely out of Emma’s life. Obviously, it’ll be interesting to see Neal in Storybrooke, and this suggests to me that Emma, Snow and their party will return sooner rather than later, but mainly because of what it means for Henry, half of who's lineage comes from our world, and Neal, who we know saw magic in a box.
The CGI for the beanstalk was terrible, but I liked that the giant wasn’t what he was reputed to be. I was engrossed enough while it was on, but there weren’t that many huge moments. I suppose there was a lot of manoeuvring in place going on.
