Hart of Dixie: 2.20 If Tomorrow Never Comes

Wade and Lemon still hadn’t figured out co-owning a business and how joint decision-making worked, which stressed Wanda out because she’d foolishly decided to return to the RJ to wait. (The writers seemed to have forgotten Wanda’s stress hives, though.)

Zoe choked on her food while watching Dash report Tansy moving in with George, and freaked out about dying/being alone, not helped by Lavon and AB’s coupleyness, and then Jonah was back at the surgery (‘ugh’) and she over-reacted until finding out by ignoble means why Brick had consulted with him. She then made Brick’s non-malign tumour and decision not to tell his daughter (or Zoe initially) all about her. Which Brick called Zoe out on. But she went and talked rather morbidly to Shelby, so she did a bunk, leaving Zoe and Jonah descending to invading Shelby’s privacy and bullying her to the hospital to cheer Brick up befoe he had the procedure because of Zoe’s big, insensitive mouth.

Just as I was thinking that Lavon and AB are so compatible that they didn’t make for compelling TV, they both realised they’d sided with Wade and Lemon respectively over thier unilateral purchases and plans for that night at the Rammer Jammer: wine tasting for the ladies vs. MMA TV watching for the ‘cavemen’.

Meanwhile George took Tansy’s brothers to lunch at the RJ and got further proof that they were overgrown kids (who didn’t believe Wade owned the bar until he threw them out.)

The funniest thing in the ep was Lemon not knowing what a mixed martial art was, mainly because of the delivery

Stand-off at the Rammer Jammer, with Lemon having sabotaged Wade’s plans and vice versa and two groups of patrons not getting their promised wine/fights. AB confessed to Lavon that she’d not kept to their agreement to stay out of it to help Lemon, and he admitted the same re: Wade, but when they turned up at the RJ, they found out that a compromise ‘wine and fight’ night had been arranged with cocktails and arm wrestling, and it was a success.

In the other plotline, Brick went and proposed to Shelby, who’d been forced to come see him by Zoe, and she said yes, totally under duress. Jonah reamed Zoe out for this, and both were there to greet Brick when he came to after a successful op, but before they could deliver the news that Shelby had bailed again, she turned up.

George agreed to take the Truitt brothers into his own custody because they were ‘family’ which made an eavesdropping Tansy melt into mush for him, and threaten their ‘momma’ on the boys (okay, but why hadn’t this Momma managed to bring up grown men?) I preferred the time we had this whole plotline with Dolly Parton the dog, because at least there was singing then.

Wrap-up time, and Wade and Lemon congratulated themselves on a successful night and started discussing expanding and creating a function room…and then went and set about it that night. Even though they’d changed into overalls and safety googles, it was a disaster, leading to structural damage – hey, I thought we were going to have a conflagration. I imagine they’re going to have to turn to the Bank of Brick, then.

Jonah reamed Zoe out some more for hitching Brick with a fair-weather fiancée and she admitted that she’d gone overboard because Brick is the closest thing she has to a father. Jonah said he undertood (okay, fine, show, have Jonah see Brick as his father figure too. It would give some cover for why he left his high-flying job after only a few weeks to return to Bluebell, other than being an unconvincing love interest for Zoe. I just think Jonah’s love for his family has been told to us rather than shown.) And she said she’d clean it up and went to tell Brick what she’d done and that he couldn’t trust Shelby to be a reliable future wife, except Shelby had already told him all that happened (because Shelby tells Brick things, as we know. We’d probably know it better if it happened onscreen, but whatever.) And he said he had proposed because he didn’t want to have any regrets.

So, Zoe marched over to George’s to tell him she had nearly choked on a doughnut and she actually liked him. And he responded marvellously by saying she’d had her chance and he was very happy with Tansy. (Mmhmm?)

So, Zoe was wholly ridiculous in an ep where Brick and Shelby were the most reasonable characters. And not even Bilson’s charm helped.
