Hart of Dixie - 3.9 Something To Talk About

I note that the show is now sponsored by ‘Best of the USA’ (which I suppose is a campaign to get tourists to visit the US.) I wouldn’t have made that claim about this show myself.

In this ep, officially, only George was pretending to be over his ex but not really. Officially, Zoe is willing to concede that Wade makes her crazy and she’s going to stop punishing him, but nothing more. As Joel pointed out repeatedly, she went bananas on learning that Cousin Vivian and Ex Wade were dating. Green bananas. Zoe claimed the opposite vehemently, until she felt bad for influencing Vivian from going on a second date after a successful first. She was able to make up for her mistakes, thus leading to a second date, which both Wade and Vivian seemed happy about. The shipper in me would point out that it was Wade telling Zoe what she was doing was not on that got through, not Joel more or less saying the same. But Zoe’s really happy with Joel. Officially.

And officially, Brick just can’t say no to Shelby. It’s not that he’s not over her, whatever the more age appropriate woman he was trying to date believed. I’m refusing to care since the writers are trying to take back what they wrote at the end of the previous season. Shouldn’t have written it in the first place, when I was invested in Brick/Shelby. Although I’m mildly curious to see how Lemon reacts when she returns to find that Shelby has moved in again. Platonically. And Brick is taking all her orders.

Lemon was allegedly harassing Brick over the phone while tending to her injured grandmother.

Alongside all this, the governor wanted to merge Bluebell and Philmore (like all the ladies who got to hear of this, I wondered what the merged name would be.) Lavon put off telling the town and dragged George into finding a legal loophole, or failing that, an illegal one. Philmore’s lawyer is now Tansy’s boyfriend, and Lavon was occasionally astute enough to wonder and enquire about the state of George’s feelings towards Tansy, who helped the boys spy at a Hawaiian themed party. I liked the moment where a partygoer lifted a limbo pole for inflexible Lavon. Despite George’s denials, it was fairly obvious (and ultimately to Lynley, his current girlfriend, that he wasn’t over Tansy.) Tansy could certainly do better than this Scooter, but my past indifference about George and Tansy’s sizzle and belief in their compatibility remains.

Because ‘the fourth estate’ were nosing around the merger story and AnnaBeth asked for Zoe’s help to come up with a distraction, AnnaBeth and Joel had to have a fake affair, with Zoe’s help, until the truth came out in a town meeting. This whole plotline was typically daft, but it did bring in most of the characters organically. I felt that the fact they chose not to have someone explain to Rose where the expression ‘the fourth estate’ actually comes from says it all about the show.
