last Christmas, I gave you my heart

The Mindy Project 1.8 Two to One
I very much enjoyed Mindy sorting everything out in the end (although my reaction to the premise of the episode was ‘Those three idiots in charge?’ Ahem.
Possibly my favourite bit was Betsey’s terrible texts.
Hello, other best friend (although the dynamic between the three women is very credible.)
And no, Danny and Jeremy, the midwives aren't as hot as you. (Are male midwives a thing in the US? They'd be a total rarity over here. And that's the closest I'll cme to discussing health systems.)
1.9 Josh and Mindy’s Christmas Party (the reason for the subject line)
Her crazy earrings! Danny’s gingerbread house. Shawna’s (sp?) hot boyfriend! Morgan’s Spanish karaoke machine! All perfect.
So, the set-up was there, Mindy’s love life and work life collide...
The moment where Mindy overheard Josh’s other woman was genuinely painful. The variances on the trope were pretty well done, what with having Danny being the one who knew and feeling a sense of responsibility to the staff (justified by the holding hands moment) and to Mindy. I may have yelled ‘throw things at Josh, not each other’ at one point, but I LOVED that they all stayed (got talked into it by Jeremy), and Danny’s attempts at comforting were preposterous, thus deserving the twist on the pact (but she had to be feeling better with the ‘broken home’ jab.) And my inner shipper loved it all. Yes, even though Danny is seeing someone - possibly the woman he met at the club, even. But I also love the gang of them together too.
The Good Wife 4.19 Death of a Client
SUCH a good episode, in terms of the revelations – practically every break had a brilliant revelation and hook. Firing on so many cylinders. I mean, it’s season 4 and it throws the fact that Alicia was pregnant with Zach when she married Peter and Grace was an accident in. My initial reaction was that Alicia’s mother was lying, but she wasn’t and actually that makes sense. And the whole ‘I was going to rip into you...don’t undermine me with the truth’. And that it’s partly that Alicia’s parenting is a reaction against her mothers, but the kids remind them of her father, and all one can say is why not bring in Stockard Channing as Alicia’s mother sooner?
Sorry, that was incoherent.
I am glad that we got to go to the party, as I was disappointed that we weren’t at the end of the last episode. The colour was stunning on Mrgulies (although I found her shoulders and arms distracting for some reason) and everyone, nearly, was all dressed up. I loved that the Cardinal was onto both candidates. Kristiva (sp?) isn’t going to win, obv, not least because he doesn’t have an Eli. But Peter’s FACE – Chris Noth nailed the ugly, up for a brawl look – as he went up those stairs and then punched him, because yes, family is his line. And the way he'd worked it out so that he could get away with it was such a good character moment.
I sort of feel that John Noble’s character didn’t quite get his dues – the line about all those lawsuits being because he wanted to hang out with Alicia, really? I was left with questions about his motivations, and the feeling that the writers had been excited to cast Nobl and reference Fringe a bit (I gave the show up in season 1 as it was too gory for me, and I wasn’t sure I could trust them to bring it all home). Now, it’s as it should be that this was all about Alicia, but Matthew Anspaugh, prickly paranoid, Bach aficionado and murder victim was a bit nebulous. Although his murder was solved – I would totally have called Kalinda at that point too. Loved that she knew the detective (whom we haven’t seen before?) and could outinvestigate the cops, who might not have been guilty of the corruption that they seemed to be, but still, making Alicia think her life and her kids were in danger was wrong and low.
But Alicia/Will flashbacks (his hair! Her face as she remembered!!) I mean, there’s a part of me that thinks that some of the timing of the flashbacks as suggested by the hair was wrong – wouldn’t Alicia have worked with the client well after the time when she hooked up with Will if the 18 cases were still open? BUT I'm mainly gleeful that we got some Alicia/Will flashbacks. And the conversation where she acknowledged the fact that his reaction was ‘you’re in danger? I’m dropping everything and coming’ was hot, but then went on to acknowledge that it was wrong. Because his hopeful eyes. HIS HOPEFUL EYES. And they have the same difficulty in describing what’s going on between them as I do.
Lots of meaty conversations in this ep.
In the middle of the reiteration that she’s choosing Peter and why, there was letting go, although right now, I suspect Will/Laura is going to lead to a lot of hurt for everyone.
(And I haven't let go of Alicia/Will.)
Oh, and some of Will’s motivation for coming to the station had to be Diane’s job offer. We’ve sort of been here before, no? But Judge Diane...However, THE FIRM. Will needs her to balance him out and I think he totally knows it. Pop can’t run the firm without Mom.
And poor Cary, he still cares the most.
