Hart of Dixie - 3.10 Star of the Show
(…is Lemon?) Depending on how long before she returns to Bluebell, I’m assuming the actress playing her is pregnant, since Lemon was issuing edicts over videolink at AB’s request in this ep, because Lavon was mainlining ice cream (as was Tansy because she didn’t like lying to Scooter/facing the possibility he was as bad as George said.) Lavon’s problem was he didn’t know what else to do over the future merger. But Lemon had a plan, it’s just a shame it involved Cricket.
Meanwhile Shelby was continuing to be demanding of Brick, making him (AB really) cancel all his patients that afternoon to help her with her cabaret. Lemon suggested that ruining said cabaret, into which Shelby had sunk all her money (what money? I ask as someone who watched the previous season) would get her to go. So, Brick asked Zoe, who was volunteering because she wanted the men in her life to believe she was creative. (So did AB just give Brick Zoe’s patients instead of taking back the cancellations?)
This led to us seeing bits of a cabaret about cells.
As George had uttered Tansy’s name in his sleep, Lynley was worrying. Cue an enforced double date hike to keep Scooter away from plans to impress the Governer’s sister with Bluebell’s ‘charm’. Tansy was trying to claim the best of Scooter, but calling Lynley crazy eyes.
She was on stronger ground when she pointed out Vivian’s tell that she was lying to Wade, be that faking enthusiasm for going to another bar for another gig or lying her way out of it. It was the lying that bothered Wade, but the truth – duh – was that as a single mother and a working teacher, she couldn’t keep going out at that time. (Also, doesn’t the new, grown up bar owner Wade have a responsibility to tend his own bar?)
Shelby collapsed when Brick and Zoe admitted Brick had followed Lemon’s orders and put Zoe in charge of the cabaret to make it fail because he was unable to stand up to her. (Every time he said it out loud, it sounded so mean as all Shelby’s money was tied into the project. Which is probably the best answer I’ll get to my questions about the state of her finances.) Zoe had to admit defeat and ask Joel to rescue the cabaret because it the Governor’s sister admitted she had a fondness for them. It was kind of terrible (except the actress playing Cricket has as good a voice as the actress playing Shelby does) UNTIL Shelby was literally wheeled in to sing ‘Broadway Baby’ from her bed. I laughed, but wasn’t that more vaudeville than cabaret?
Tansy admitted to George that she may have made a mistake over Scooter (who may now have custody of Dolly Parton???) and may have found it tough to see him move on. George pretty obviously reciprocates, and Lynley (who was only pretending to pass out drunkenly, because she is about as crazy as anyone else on the show) knows as much. But it was Brick who decided to stop fighting the effect of Shelby’s eyes on him and that they should get back together. Shelby decided to go along with it, although based on what we’ve seen the past few episodes that’s her liking him being at her beck and call, not twu wuv.
Perhaps because Rachel Bilson had been stung by people pointing out the obvious – nearly every other character on this show has sung – Zoe gave Joel a rendition of one of her show’s songs (even though he’d have seen it in the run through. The introductory dialogue was terrible.) It didn’t suck! She’s not a terrible singer. My strongest feeling was bemoaning all the full musical episodes we could have had on this show already. The absurdity would go down so much easier if people sang it!
