Up the Women episode 2
I watched this because the third episode is meant to be better. It had better be given that, like in the first episode, a lot of the humour is very creaky sitcom set-ups and the rest borders on Carry On Politely Requesting Votes for Women – why not have more of the daftness of howling like wolves as a signal? I enjoy the way the guy playing Thomas rolls his Rs - I like to think he watched Downton Abbey and was disappointed by their enunciation. Although Hynes, Front and Parfitt are all good, it’s just the material isn’t there.
Parks and Rec 2.21 94 Meetings
Was this a riff off The West Wing's Cheese Day? The meetings strand was strongest, especially the irony of someone named April not knowing how many days are in the month (or if she were like me, knowing that she didn’t know and using a calendar, except that would be very much not!April). And then her accidentally coming up with brilliant suggestions. And the stuff from where she quit to finding out she has a nickname at home and such parents was brilliant. After all, Andy was spot on, April is perfect as Ron’s assistant.
Otherwise, everything else was fine, except for Leslie tying herself uselessly to the gate, which made me cackle.
Third grade doesn’t travel well across the pond, so I still have no idea exactly how old he actually is. Suffice it to say I still wouldn't put him in charge of a baby now.
2.22 Telethon
While not having been up for two days running, I was, as ever, primed to laugh a lot more at this. SLEEP FIGHTING!!! The increasingly desperate attempts to fill time on the channel that weren’t that much worse than the scheduled stuff. Of course Ann should draw a moustache on Leslie’s face.
(And again, poor Jerry.)
The Mindy Project 1.12 Hooking up is hard
But it's funny. (I might not have laughed as loudly as I did to the responses to the murder mask if I’d watched this first.) Morgan was the go-to guy for over invested funniness. I liked the homeopathic midwife’s wardrobe, at least.
In the other side-show to my OTP, the age isn’t the problem (except I am totally on Danny’s side about eating times) as much as Eye Patch’s taste in a good night out.
In conclusion, I laughed more and more as the night went on, but I suspect that had a little more to do with me getting increasingly hysterical than the content.
