shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (OUAT Snow White)
[personal profile] shallowness

The pedant in me was delighted that the show finally cleared up what Charming’s birth name was (whilst on the run because of a rampaging giant, of course). But then I felt really thick for not suspecting David, because he was a shepherd who became a King Prince. Although I think the show retconned the whole thing.

Otherwise, I wasn’t all THAT fussed at seeing Charming’s evil twin, apart from on a very shallow level - he looked so eighties soft rock video! - because I don’t think the actor has as much range as most of the other leads. But I did like Jack – execrable taste in men aside, and, actually, the lingerie didn’t fit with everything else that we later saw her do. I wished, in a way, they’d developed her more or made it her story.

But I can see why they did what they did with Anthony/Tiny, and Jorge Garcia was likeable enough. The way he found a new band of brothers, a home and a purpose would have been touching, but, given what Belle and Rumpelstiltskin had been going through with their memories, I was reminded of the dwarf he’s replaced. Is Sneezy still wandering around Storybrooke wondering if everyone else is mad with their talk of being mice and needing fairy dust? Or is he in the hospital being taken care of? The show doesn’t care enough to tell us.

On the other hand, JERRY from ER! That delighted me, and the way they were all ‘we must save the beans’ ‘why?’ ‘because that’s what we do’ (I barely paraphrased that) made me chortle.

I did think the giants were a bit useless when facing tiny James and Jack – they just retreated before they’d felt the sting of the poison swords or the too-expensive-to-show ‘human army’ had arrived. No wonder they lost. And arguing that they were peace-loving doesn't really excuse it.

Otherwise, it was good to see Snow (and Charming) in action in Storybrooke. Their difference of opinion over what home is chunters on. It’s something they need to talk about with Emma.

I also like Emma and Henry on their road trip, while watching Rumpelstiltskin get fraidy over flying/finding Bael was fun (I have a bad feeling that my suspicion about who he is is going to come true. And while linking the two families together like that has juicy possibilities, I feel it’s a little too easy.) Iiinteresting that he doesn't have magic out past the Storybrooke limits - does that mean Emma doesn't either, although if nobody else has it, she won't need it? However, what of the suggestion of the wish come true in the very first episode? And what did August have in that box?

Poor Belle. I’m glad that Ruby remembered they are friends, but how is tranquilising her like that okay? After being locked up for 28 years and thrown into a dungeon by the man she loved, she deserves better. Ruby’s cover story for Mendel was fake like reality TV.

Regina’s motivations weren’t given enough weight. The moment where she found out Henry had gone/been taken away was sad, but both the writing and the lack of Cora (she decided to lie low my foot, you had too many characters in this episode is what it was) didn’t really satisfy me.

And I have written at length about the ep and not got around to Hook. Ha. Although I like the idea that his ship is made of enchanted wood.
